Actually the dad thing IS new.

Besides once and for all telling David Finch and his man hating cunt of a wife to fuck off and die via restoring Who is Donna Troy as Donna's origin, Jimenez answered the question of who Donna's dad was, something that had been a huge dangling plot thread since the 80s.

Having him be a dead gay guy also let's Jimenez avoid having him linger around and possibly be killed off or made evil by the Finches and their allies at DC, who are still pissed that DC tried to throw out his wife's WW's run after it was reviled by everyone for how dirty it did Donna
