The creators themselves are trying to say rumi's demonic heritage if a metaphor for being gay. Which she clearly isn't. And also, if demonicity is a metaphor for gayness the moral of the movie seems to be in order to redeem oneself of homosexuality one must dedicate themselves to destroying homosexuals and shielding society from its influence.
OP's theory makes more sense and is more respectful. Especially given how the demons are literally criminal aliens trying to cross a border and the hunters are agents who defend that border and send demons back to hell as their job.

Most people here are deathly afraid of genuine discussion because engaging in a good faith discussion means accepting that someone else might have a good point, so they all just shout mindless political buzzwords at eachother under a paper-thin guise of cartoon discussion.
