I will admit, crude humor seems to get a chuckle out of me most of the time. Like Tamers1234 or Brandon Rogers (Non Vivize-Pop related).
But everything I watch either of these shows, I find it irritating, grating and boring.

Helluva Boss-wise, you can just default to “it feels like a fanfiction of itself” because it’s dead accurate. Characters and the plot bend over backwards to make Blitzo and Stolas happen as a relationship that were supposed to take seriously. It all but abandons its pilot premise of demons running a hitman buisness to kill humans that people in hell want dead in favor of gay melodrama.
I only watch for Loona, and this is the one exception I’ll give to a character being admittedly flat and having barely any screentime and development because the moment she’ll get some, she’s going to be even further down the gutter.

Helluva Boss desperately tries to make the audience feel sorry for objectively evil characters at the expense of story and entertainment value. The show really wants you to think the characters are all precious snowflakes damaged by their environment while simultaniously making their problems mostly self inflicted and having their living be killing humans, not just evil humans, any humans, and yet it expects us to root agaisnt antagonists who havent done half the evil shit the main cast has. It also suffers from inconsistant worldbuilding, which punishes anyone who doesnt follow the show on social media.

I actually like Helluva Boss, despite what it is and its flaws. I dunno I kind of like the gay melodrama between Stolas and Blitzo, and I hope S3 is at least decent. My only real critique of that show is that they heavily underutilize the female characters in favor of anything gay related and I hope in the next season they expand on the female characters. Hazbin though I didn't like. It had an interesting premise but all it did was tell us things rather than show us things. It told us that souls could be redeemed, but Charlies proof was Angel being nice to Niffty. Sir Pentius redeemed himself because he sacrificed himself for everyone, but he still didn't put in any of the other work required. Redemption as a concept is about acknowledging the wrongs you did and making amends, and bettering yourself and I dont think Vizie or the other writers have the skills to write a nuanced subject. Especially since Heaven doesn't feel that much different from hell, just more gold and white colored.

Crude humor can be fun, but a show that is only 10% percent actual wit and 90% profanity trying to pass off as the former becomes grating really quickly.

Another thing to keep in mind, and I don't see this being brought up often enough, is that the profanity and edgyness is utterly TOOTHLESS. It's the happy meal of edgy humor, because it is made by modern day progressive writers who would never dare write something that could pass for being bigoted. They wouldn't be caught dead making light of, say, men abusing women, or queer identities or whatnot, which means we as the audience know with 100% certainty that the edge is actually dull, that they'll always hold back when it comes to sacred cows, and thus that the humor can never be truly transgressive.

And if you can't be trangressive, why bother trying to be edgy in the first place? Safer humor would suit them better... but then you'd need wit to compensate.

The issue with both shows is that they promise a really interesting premise and then do everything but actually explore that premise. HH in particular has this really interesting idea about the lives of sinners and whether hell is really the end and whether damned souls might be worthy of salvation and then immediately abandons it in favor of shallow melodrama between oppressive hypocritical overlords and oppressed but quirky underclass.

Helluva Boss - All the main characters kill humans for money all the while doing extra evil shit while the terrible writers insists that the characters are likable and must be supported by viewers.

Hazbin Hotel - The sinners are confirmed to be unrepentant evil cunts especially since Season 2's leaks showed Lilith was intentionally uniting sinners to declare War on Heaven. So the idea that Charlie can redeem such evil trash and do it by saying Sorry is simply insulting bullshit. And it doesn't help that Charlie insists on her idiotic crusade even though sinners even when faced with extermination of their damned souls STILL preferred to remain evil.

The problem with these shows is that it insists that such evil sacks of shit are misunderstood good people. And that's insulting to the viewers.

Evil sacks of shit is kinda the premise since its hell, the issue is that hell really isnt hellish at all beyond its denizens make it so. This makes it really unclear why Charlie doesnt just fix it rather tha trying to get people into heaven. Another issue is that we know next to nothing for why the sinners actually landed in hell, so their redemption feels really empty given that they havent even recognized that they did bad things.
I suspect that Viv will eventually reveal that what makes people land in one place or the other is either entirely arbitrary or rigged in some way, completely undermining the reason why the setting was interesting in the first place.

I will admit to having no professional writing experience but from what I learned about narrative writing in high school and creative writing in college (and reading lots of fiction books and scripts), Vivzie's sense of humor is unbearable for a few reasons.

I'm not going to read this thread because I fundamentally believe a core rule for answering questions on 4chan is to say things in your own words rather than piggyback off other anons' opinions.

Hazbin Hotel appealed to me specifically because at the time I was getting more and more interested in demonology, and I even started worldbuilding my own variant of Hell because I genuinely thought it was cool attempting to rationalize imps and succubi and so on building a semi-functional society. To some extent, I wanted to believe HH would inspire me to look at the thing I had created and expand upon it. Of course there's the angle of it being the linchpin to indie animation's revival (lol, lmao) but even compared to lore spergs I was very invested in the potential scope of its setting.

And then nothing fucking happened. With both shows. It became just like every other animation out there, where instead of an adventure or a believable place you get to listen to characters bitch and moan and occasionally do cool, but vapid shit for a few minutes before the animators get tired and move on. Not even accessory elements from the pilot were kept in the series itself, and the same could be said about Helluva Boss. It was like they had this fast-paced timing, cheeky fourth wall breaks and crazy SFX that were completely absent in the actual series.

I couldn't care less about both series ending up as soap operas. Like I said, that's to be expected and since it's not for me I didn't engage positive or negatively. My gripe is that with this fucked up dynamic between two limp-dicked series, Vivziepop couldn't even do the bare minimum and have them intersect, like an A plot and a B plot told out of sync. Instead it was just a soap opera with cussing and a soap opera with songs... and cussing. Nothing to latch onto besides shipfaggotry.

And to this day I still have writer's block, partially because this show did literally nothing with its premise and made me lose hope.

Something I wish was touched upon, even lightly, was what I have come to call "Death Realization". That the Sinner or Winner has realized that they have died, and are in fact in the afterlife. We don't see a Sinner freaking out that their body is no longer how they remember it, or a Winner that their family isn't waiting for them up in Heaven. The existential horror that they have DIED, and its not at all spoken of at all. In the next season I hope we can have a newly arrived Sinner claw their way to the hotel and begin for salvation, with Charlie seeing them as a test case - just on the off-chance Sir Pentious was just a one off.

Charlie's Hotel becomes the "tavern" or "lobby" where your new boss sends you to meet each other. And a place to rest and hoard loot since they can stay for free.

If one of you gets killed during a mission, they respawn in the ring of their particular sin when the mission is over.
If all of you die, then it's game over and your boss gets to keep your souls.

This way they would actually have to try and heal instead of just wait till they go down and simply revive them.
