I barely see anyone talk about this show both on 4chan and among normalfag circles despite it releasing only a few months ago. Even Castlevania had way more staying power, was it that shitty?

Castlevania does not have staying power. Those episodes vanish from the public conciousness the minute they end.

Yes. I didn't even see it and I can tell it sucks due to no one talking about it. My rule34 sites don't have a bunch of pics, the shirt a day sites didn't have a bunch of designs, /co/ didn't have a bunch of threads about it, it came and went without so much as a dry fart. Which in the current year means it sucks in that way where it isn't even fun to make fun of it (which is the worst suck.)

Season 1 was good. It was a terrible adaptation and planted the seeds of the worst things about the show but it was the only decently paced and decently written part of the show. Season 2 was objectively shit but people loved it. People only realized that the show was shit when Alucard got raped in season 3.

In the end, Dante wasn't even really the main character of the show. It was a badly adapted version of Lady who swears way too often because that is the only personality they gave her.

The villain was meh with bad motivations. I didn't mind about making some demon civilians sympathetic, because Sparda himself was as well in official lore... But the villains backstory was too sappy and would have worked better if he was just a plain old evil demon.

Castlevania's first full season at least kept to the basic plot of the game... (ie team up and fight Dracula) While Devil May Cry used characters from the fan favorite DMC 3... And then threw out the entire plot and changed the characters... And then introduced aspects from the fan hated DMC 2.

Also using Nero's voice actor from the games, for Dante in the show was a bad move.

It got a lot of shit at the time but I always liked it. I like seeing Dante in his day job and not between big events and crises. Helps they actually got the game voice actor to do the dub and not have him played by someone who plays a different character in the same series.

Tameem and Shankar have literally the exact same mindset when approaching the franchise. "I'm 13 and this is deep" social commentary, characters mangled, I'm sorry "adapted" to the point of barely being recognizable, excessive and obnoxious swearing like I'm in middle school again, absolutely repulsive disregard for aesthetics of the games. It's pretty uncanny actually.

Not a single gothic/european looking location, no new unique devil arms for Dante to fuck around with other then Agni and rudra for one scene and some demon Dante mangled into boxing gloves for another scene, the licensed music felt lazy, sparda being a dead beat dad apparently, Arkham/jester getting essentially removed, and dialogue that would make you think Tameem from the reboot wrote this show.

Adi took too long and probably dragged his feet when he realized he wasn't going to be the "savior" of DMC. Also I think that's what they did with Onimusha and the 2007 DMC anime.

Never played DMC, and I did like Castlevania show. I didn't like the netflix DMC; it's just all around poorly written and the more I learn about Shankar the more I see his marks on Castlevania too. I think I could rant on this for like an hour.

It's got hamfisted, lazy exposition: Consider the broker guy who just info dumps while in custody early on. Oh and the broker guy was just a lazy attempt at emotional manipulation with zero credibility, and his sacrifice was pointless anyway as Dante gets cut like 2 minutes later anyway.

Dante is barely a character and instead a glorified macguffin. He doesn't change at all throughout the show, has little to no agency (gets captured 3 times?). He gets a few revelations about his past but this doesn't effect his character at all.

White Rabbit's backstory is needlessly complicated IMO, he could have just been a sympathetic demon, there's nothing really added making him secretly human and I think actually detracts from the intended message. Additionally, it makes the demon bullets a plot hole; they establish early they don't work on him to foreshadow he's human. But he's constantly pumped FULL of demon blood so it should have worked anyway. Shankar has stated he sees himself as the white rabbit too so that's a whole other can of worms. Brother you are an Indian-American nepo baby the fuck does the suffering of Iraqi civilians have to do with you personally you self absorbed fuck.

Lady's character arc is lazy as hell. Full Doom Slayer until she is shown a minuscule amount of kindness one (1) time and that's good enough to 180 and even lie to her superior except JK she regresses and stabs Dante in the back at the last minute again anyway.

It wants to be a war in Iraq/Afghanistan metaphor but seems to be actively preaching FOR intervention, as one of the main gripes by the antagonists is they were sealed way left to their own devices to suffer at the hands of their own people instead of Humans coming in and killing their warlord. And top it all off with the retarded '08 conspiracy "we want their oil!!!" rebranded.

I know people expect the series to be nothing but LOL CUHRAZY but I did appreciate seeing a more mellow side of things. You get more of a sense of the kind of person Dante actually is and his relationship with humanity and where he sees himself in it. He's by all accounts a loner but not one who wants to be alone. If that makes any kind of sense.
