Haven't seen the one on the right, but Apple & Onion is indeed a highlight in CN's last 10 years. I'll always be bitter about the OP's killer promo art only being revealed AFTER A&O ended. It just looks so fun and is a perfect window into how insane the show gets. Undoubtedly would've gotten more people to give it a chance compared to the sterile images used as it was still airing.

CN's gonna CN. In August 2010 they cancelled Chowder because it was too childish and they wanted to age up their audience. In the same month they cancelled Flapjack because it was too mature and they wanted to make more child-friendly content.

clarence's art style is godawful slop but i'll be damned if it isn't one of the best shows to come out of modern cn

It genuinely doesn’t make any goddamn sense. Adventure Time and Regular Show we’re the biggest hits and merchandising cash cows they had since PPG, and what do they do? They learn nothing and spend the entire later half of the 2010s making shit like Apple and Onion and The Fungies. I legitimately forgot Apple and Onion even existed, it’s so forgettable.
The formula of making fresh TVPG cartoons was working so well and making them so much money that they just had to stop, I guess.

All of the later CN shows are fine on their own, it's just jarringly off brand since everyone got used to CN being Adult Swim Jr. It's like if the Hallmark channel started only playing slasher films and told the audience "it's all in your head, you're just nostalgic".

I don't read comics, but any time someone has suggested reading a comic that isn't capeshit, either the entire premise of the comic is unappealing to me, or the premise is appealing, but the execution is always something that makes me want to stop reading before I finish a single comic. It's usually something about the writing that makes me hate it, but occasionally it's the art style just looking really shit. Eventually I just have to stop bothering and admit the entire Western industry has made the medium unpalatable and it might take a long time before I ever see another comic worth trying to read.

Apple and Onion is a bit of a mixed bag. There's quite a few really solid and funny bits, but there's also a lot of boring duds too. Never watched Ivandoe and I probably never will.
