Imagine how embarrassing it would be for the US animation industry to lose to a foreign movie 3 years in a row.

So is this one also about a world where everyone has fursonas in VR world and then something goes wrong and an unlikely heroine and her love interest need to have a big fight against a virus guy?

It's a new movie, idiot. You don't need to know what it is to realize that, it's simple logic just by looking at the OP image.

If anything the Academy is getting better and growing with more judges who genuinely care the medium. DreamWorks and Disney banked on the classic "Don't care, asked my 8 year old" for decades

It's a complete conundrum, a puzzle box mystery, a brain twister to be sure.

Western animators are sellouts, now the industry is run by marketing types and not talented people.

For example, I remember that this year Pixar released a piece of garbage woke that failed and instead of realizing that they have to improve, they said that the problem is that the public is not interested in new IPs and that now they are only going to release sequels from now on.

I feel like I’m completely done with Hosoda. I was in denial with Boy and the Beast, and defended Mirai despite its issues, but I was completely offput by Belle. He’s actively getting more ambitious and technically accomplished with each movie, but in a completely wrong-headed direction imo, obsessed with western tropes and becoming a parody of himself with the digital references. I’d love for him to bounce back, but I’m doubtful Scarlet is the one to do it. Will probably skip entirely.

Funny that his newer movies get much better critic reviews, all because his oscar norm made normie critics want to pretend they “get him”, but they’re just posers. I don’t know how anyone can watch his Digimon/One Piece stuff and first three original movies, and PREFER his recent ones.

Seems like the only monster in this one is a dragon looking thing, otherwise its the love interest guy who seemingly got isekai'd or time travelled or something into this medieval setting.

Belle looked gorgeous and had some impressive 3D visuals but the characters were awful and the story was such a mess it felt like the plot was being held together by duct tape.

Audiences are tired of the standard Disney/Pixar/Dreamworks formula slop that has permeated the industry for the past 25 years.
It’s like how people were pretty fucking sick of the “Disney Renaissance formula” by the end of the 90s, since it was Disney and every other company all trying to do the same exact style of storytelling and animation. The fall of the Disney Renaissance is often blamed on CGI but the real culprit is that audiences want new and exciting stories told by passionate creators.
The biggest thing that terrifies Hollywood is EVER having to take a risk or seek new talent, so they always blame audiences or anything else other than their tired stagnation, all so they can keep making the exact same kinds of movies and keep getting your money through the safest bets. They don’t WANT to have to try, and we’re finally seeing audiences rejecting that.

I've seen the trailer. The animation is so fucking choppy. I'm not talking about the Sony Animation kind of choppy like Spider-Verse or Kpop Demon Hunters where you can tell it's a stylistic choice, I'm talking about ugly looking choppiness that clearly comes from a team that is not used to making 3D animation.

>>150090703
I would say that's better, making your animation bad on purpose is gay, on the other hand making your animation bad by mistake is still bad, but it's not gay.

I liked Belle well enough, even though the ending was a little weak. I hope the switch from doing a portion of the scenes in 3D to doing everything in 3D doesn't end up hurting the movie. The trailer generally looks to be a downgrade from Belle's 3D style. Maybe I'll end up being surprised and this will be my favorite animated movie this year.

>The Boy and The Heron's award got revoked because the movie was nothing but far right LDP propaganda, award went to Godzilla Minus One simply because "Nukes are bad, Mmkay", despite have the same far right LDP propaganda message "Whaaa.... We lost WWII".
>>150089864
And that movie was nothing but a remake of a Digimon movie he did years prier.

Chizu is also the only studio still trying, both Studio Colorido and CoMix Wave Film both became puppet companies for The Pokémon Company and became reserved on Pokémon projects due to their films bombing at the box office (CoMix Wave Film's Your Name was their only hit and only made anime originals strictly because of Your Name money, once that money dried up they suck up to The Pokémon Company (As Nintendo Stars just opened up and are almost reserved with illumination (Sony's live action Zelda movie is the only exception as of now) so I'm not going to bring them up until a local (Japanese) project comes up) because they were the only few companies in Japan that paid well (the other one being Toei because of Sony/Crunchyroll money)).

If Hosoda's Scarlet looses to KPop Demon Hunters you can bet your sweet bibby that Chizu will become reserved on Pokémon projects and Mamoru Hosoda will abandoned the animation industry, leaving Hiroyuki Aoyama in charge of Chizu.

And as for Studio Ponoc, they sold off their film library to Netflix in order to bail out of The Imaginary's bombing and is most likely leaching off of The Pokémon Company for work, likely to be dumped on Netflix.

Theatrical release are dying, people just need to understand that, if Scarlet bombs as badly as The Day The Earth Blew Up it will be the end for Theatrical movies (unless the film is Chinese and is made for the Chinese market and the film is nothing but CCP propaganda)
