I still stand by Action Comics #775. I also like Panic in the Sky (collected on the DC website) and the LOSH crossover in the early Byrne era. Honestly the big issue i have is the actual stories can be a pain to follow between books.

I'm pretty sure there's also a Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen where Jimmy becomes a warewolf but that might be too PG for your taste since we're talking 1950s comic codes.
