The writing's been on the wall since 2014. CN decided to tone down their shows, make them less hyper, more grounded, they wanted more emphasis on empathy cartoons, meanwhile every kid on earth was losing their mind over FNAF.

Oh no they still get a shitload of free money from cable. 100% of Paramount and WBD's net income comes from cable, everything else they own loses money. Especially their streaming services. Even 1/3 of Disney is just cable, the remaining 2/3 is parks. People buy it just to watch the news or sports and bars throw a bunch of TVs on playing hockey, doctor's offices, but a chunk of every box's monthly fee goes straight to the channels. All 3 of these companies could sink money into movies and shows that all make $0 for the next decade and they'll be fine.

Yeah, nostalgia-bait. Here's the most jewish advice I'm going to give on this board: if you want to hook new generations on your brand, you need appeal. Be self-masturbatory. Rerun your shows. Rerun old advertisements. Make Roblox games and mobile apps. Sell out and cash in on memes. It works for Nickelodeon because kids know and buy merch of characters from cartoons they've never even seen before. Do the same, do it cheap. Stop paying for new shows and start paying for new seasons of old shows. Not reboots, new seasons.

CN from the moment it started doing original programming was the "Cheaper but more creative freedom" 3rd place channel.
This is a fantastic thing to exist for cartoon fans who appreciate the content but is a constant source of anxiety for the people on the business end of things. So seeing how live action was working out for the other CN decided to try and claim a bigger slice of the pie and the cost of what made them unique.

It needs something that makes people stop and say "you could only get that on Cartoon Network". I think they should try more edgy and brutal shows, maybe have a little bit of blood in them like Powerpuff Girls had. Something that pushes the envolope and says "You guys can have your boring therapy session shows; our protagonist is about to beat the shit out of the bad guy over on our shows".

I seriously think that would bring CN from the brink. They'd have to take criticism, of course, but I think people will see more success if they accept that criticism is a part of the job.

The thing is that the last few years they really did seem to be trying. The last five or so years they not only pulled back on all the TTG shit, killed the toddler block they failed miserably with, and instead actually showed variety. They brought back a lot of their old shows and would rerun them throughout the day every day. Even had dedicated blocks for them between regular Cartoon Network and Adult Swim in that Checkered Past thing. But apparently that didn't work out? The Checkered Past block is now dead and a lot of the open push for older shows isn't as there anymore. They still have a surprisingly varied schedule now a days, lots of Gumball but it came back so I sort of get that, but they keep making weird choices.

It's because the execs think cartoons are for preschoolers and that's what gets made. They don't care that kids want something with edge and lore like Five Nights at Freddy's, or maybe they don't understand that's what kids like, who knows. Here's the thing. All that is too little and too late. Cable was on the sharp decline in the late 2010s and instead of trying to correct or keep any of their old audience, they double down on TTG, they doubled down on inoffensive slop and drove them away. What they didn't count on was the younger audience to leave them too in favor of the hip new thing on the internet to kill any interest they had in traditional TV
Yeah, I guess it was nice they have a more varied schedule now. Or that Acme Nights was a thing they attempted. Or Checkered Past was a thing. But does any of that fucking matter now in the era of streaming and priacy? I can watch all their shows and more on my PC in various different ways, most people can, having a special block isn't anything of note anymore they didn't even lean that much into the nostalgia of it, couldn't even be bothered to air some old idents or promos to sell it. I felt nothing when Checkered Past ended because I can already watch the shows they were airing, and more.

I'll be honest, I couldn't give less of a fuck if they decided to spam TTG again, it's not like they're doing anything interesting with the space they have now, being mostly just reruns. and loop. Frankly I couldn't give less of a fuck if CN as a whole shut down, the only real loss would be Adult Swim, which frankly is running on fumes itself at this point. Everything CN has done for the last five years is too little, too fucking late, they couldn't see the forest for the trees and now have to live with the consquences of that.
