When the Silver Surfer killed him, Galactus's soul was reborn as the Nova Force, which takes the form of a sun that emits no heat, only light. Surprisingly he remembers his previous life but isn't upset because in his eyes, this is just his rebirth as something new, as he did to countless planets.
The Xandarians that evolved under the Nova's light had incredible powers, but the Kree practically devastated them due to a military advantage.
The Nova was chained up and siphoned by the Kree, but it used all of it's power to seek the nearest world and give someone it's power so it could train them to take back Xandar from the Kree.
