THAT'S THE JOKE. That's literally the joke. It's the juxtaposition of "it's not good to be the fish in the net" and "they're happy they got chosen/annoyed they got rejected." Obviously one should not be happy to be captured as food, but they mix it up by likening it too pretty/va-va-voom girls being preferred to skinny/small girls being rejected. Which further ties it into the "catching fish for food" joke because you want to catch the bigger fish and you toss back the smaller ones.
