It expediates a few things admittedly, but also creates the largest paradox of why a group staunchly for assassination would effectively inform and train someone who hadn't proved unquestionably loyal beforehand, or with the handwave that Ra's thought the Wayne's resources too useful to dismiss why wouldn't he gradually condition him with setup kill or be killed situations until he became accustomed to it.
Leaving it to a last second test with nothing but hearsay as the incentive to execute someone just made Ra's, a supposedly seasoned expert of many crafts with a small army of loyal followers, suddenly look woefully inept at reading and manipulating the most barefaced person there was.
There's also the enigma of why they let Bruce get away with it for so long just to setup some long method of assassination instead of just killing him in his sleep before he got to Gotham, the movie wouldn't happen obviously but that's not relevant to the depiction of this elite shadow society as incompetent whenever dealing with this one guy.
