What film/comic had the best deconstruction of the idea of the superheroes in the real world?
Anonymous No.150177903 >>150177917
None of them. Each are written by hacks who can't stand people enjoying things so have to make it 'gritty. real. edgy' or some other grim derp nonsense

No one ever talks about James Gunn's Super and it pisses me off because it's fucking great. I wouldn't sell it as a superhero deconstruction but I love it as an unconventional anti-hero movie and a character study into the mind of a genuinely disturbed but morally driven individual. I love how the tone evolves throughout the film, how silly the character's choices are but the real weight and cost those choices end up having. I love how morally grey the ending is. I love the score. Seriously, Super is the most SOVLFUL thing James Gunn has ever made. If anyone reading this hasn't seen it and might be interested, give the movie a shot. It's a weird, unconventional movie with strange choices but you can feel the passion that went into it.

Super had Kevin Bacon and stayed grounded. Kickass ends with him flying using a jet pack that magically disappears for the second movie. I feel like Super is the better written movie but the more fun ride is Kickass.

Kinda birdman deconstructed the industry more. Not saying that’s bad I love the movie but it wasn’t about superhero’s themselves.

Super is a more realistic take than Kick-Ass, but both were fun.

I know kept telling myself I'd watch Special, because I liked the trailer, but I felt like it gave away the entire plot, so I didn't bother. Although it's probably not really a deconstruction of the superhero genre either.

It's hard to think about this as an example of this phenomena these days, but it's Spider-Man.

In an era where superheros were either nigh-immortal like Superman, uber-rich like Batman, or just didn't address money for the most part like the Flash, Peter Parker was different in that he actually had to regularly worry about his human responsibilities like rent, food, school, and taking care of his aunt.

You can tell it was a successful subversion given how pretty much every comic followed suit since then.

i don't care about "deconstructing" superheroes because that shit is stupider and lamer than just going a played-straight superhero movie, but
>kick-ass
i enjoyed it. it was fun, kick-ass's extreme endurance was about the closest the film got to a real superpower and damn if it didn't make for an entertaining one. nic cage and hit girl making for a schizo father/daughter killing team was destined to be the good shit. it also had that guy that vaas killed on the cover of far cry 3, who i only remember because vaas killed him for the cover of far cry 3.
>super
annoyed the shit out of me. i fucking hate james gunn movies because his sense of humor in anything that isn't PG-13 boils down to "what if guy walked off screen and then walked back on screen and mutilated a man in front of his wife or child or both at the same time" and i don't want to fuck ellen page, and although her character is similar to hit girl's in the sense that they're violent children, the jokes really didn't work. especially the one where she either raped or tried to rape that guy who i always get mixed up with bill hader. seriously, gunn's humor is equivalent to beavis and butthead. not the show, but the characters. i would spit on this movie if it were a person

The proud cuck ending was hilarious in an unintended way. Gunn is coping with the fact he’ll never have kids of his own.
