Today saw the Russian one from 2010, no clue what was being said but got the gist of plot from just the voice tone, body language and the stop motion was quite nicely done despite being lower budget. Did a great job with the emotional beats, especially felt bad for the Ugly Duckling with how relentlessly nasty everyone is to him and how every time he almost got uplifted got knocked down till the ending. Music was also really superbly sung alongside the classically music and associating the Ugly Duckling with the iconic Swan Lake tune was smart.
Also watched one from Fairytailer which is series that adapted tons of Hans Christian Anderson stories, that one does a good job designing him as a baby Swan plus tries to make his mum and siblings more loving of him though also has some pacing issues and the issue all the shorts have of pretty much reusing the same 3 VA's. Thanks for the reccomendo, I dunno why but story recently kinda wormed into my brain, same thing happened with the movie Rio.
