The ant one was my favorite. It kind of reminded me of the magic school bus ant episode.

That's a great episode, and specially funny to rewatch after watching Ant Bully, except for Ant Waifu, a 20 minute episode did a way better "What if you were in the ants' shoes for a day" story.

How many episodes were adapted from the comics?

Is it me or was this episode originally made for this show but rejected for being too dark and violent for kids?

Nah couldn't be. Werent all the adult crypt keeper episodes actually based on issues of the comic? there must have been a cartoony issue, and when they did the episode on it they decided to animate it.
I STILL think about
>Little pig little pig, wuit biting my head, you cannot kill what is already dead.
and
>PORK! the other white meat.

Only a good majority of the first season episodes were taken from the comics. Once the Vault Keeper and Old Witch joined the show in S2, they switched over to original content (apart from an adaptation of 'Drawn and Quartered').

On that note, due to being unfamiliar with EC at the time, my young self never knew that Vault Keeper and Old Witch were the hosts from TftC's sister works.

Oh I assumed all of the animated tftc were original, or I didnt really think about it. I remember clearly, though, channel flipping and catching the three little pigs. No idea it was tftc until the ending and we saw the keeper doing his schtick. The puppet crypt keeper not the animated one.
And there was a game show too? Like a physical challenge tales from the crypt game show for kids, featuring the live performed crypt keeper puppet.
There was this little sliver where they were pushing tftc really hard.

yeah but this format of telling spooky stories is a bit outdated. Of course they like video game horror and analog horror.

I watched this movie yesterday. Pretty good, but kinda weird seeing the Crypt Keeper as a normal guy instead of a rotting corpse.

Watch Vault of Horror next.
Then Tales of Terror and Twice Told Tales. There's plenty more stuff out there too like Dr. Terror's House of Horror and torture garden.
