Because Paramount has nearly given up on television. For many years now they've been shoving as many ads as possible into their broadcasts. During most of the day they run ~35 minute timeslots just so they can have more commercials per minute of South Park.

In my experience, regarding even just tabletop roleplay in general. The big core divide is that the girls are often trying to make like these more "Down to earth, relatable" kinda characters who they wanna explore and then the guys come along and like. Bad ones make blatant self inserts but good ones tend to start from a place of zany/eccentric/cool shit and flesh out from there instead of the other way around.
So it'll be like

So basically, the girl who wants a more down to Earth group of characters finds herself with the merry band of eccentric weirdos which basically keeps her from the kind of character work she wanted to do, and she accepts she's along for the ride because none of the gang wanna do too much angsty novella stuff and stick to the quirks they've written in.

Say what you want about this episode but it was certainly better than the previous two, I was worried for a bit that the first episode of the season was a fluke and that the rest would be shit, but I found this one to be enjoyable even if I didn't laugh at it as much.

Current episodes are just the same scene repeated ad infinitum with no storytelling in it. South Park has become what I thought it was as a kid, a really bad show that's only quality is kids swearing back in the 90s, that's why I refused to watch it as a kid, I thought it was going to be substanceless. We don’t NEED Beavis and Butt-Head right now at all, because it’s not helping anything- it takes attention away from the real issue, that evil man in charge destroying the lives of everyone, causing victims to snap and hurt people just to be heard like what happened at that school recently, taking away rights, and making people think it’s OKAY to be a sociopath. South Park is pointing this out. South Park isn’t a humor, because it KNOWS we can’t lay down, relax, and get high. South Park is the light and it’s the warning. So many people currently working to take him down are backed by and inspired by South Park.
