If the movie had a portrayal of him that was cool with to carry how mundane everything else was, I'd probably be cool with the rest. No one shone, it was all a pretty gay affair.
I actually really liked the latest Superman movie, and 'grounded' takes can be fun too like Batman Begins, but you strip everything away except a costume, then you better have a stellar plot. She this movie sure didn't.

No. It doesn't matter how much time goes by a lie is still a lie, and I won't even entertain the notion that "it doesn't matter who plays" the character so long as White People are attacked by screeching Sayanim anytime a minority animated character is being cast. THEN it suddenly matters A LOT.

And what a stupid notion. Batman doesn't need to "reflect society." Yes, I do want Batman to be set in 30's art deco Gotham. That's what everyone wants. Heck, reading Golden Age Batman makes him seem more interesting and realistic because all of the buildings are 1-2 stories tall and forensics hasn't been invented yet. It's not our fault American Media is obsessed with milking long runners instead of continuously outputting new IPs. You want to make a "modern" story, think one up. Taking something people like, stripping everything that's unique and cool about it out, then getting mad when people don't like it is asinine.

There were a lot of characters that were intended black originally, but the editors back then either didn't have the balls to do them, because they feared backlash from /thoseguys/ or hated minorities themselves, and WERE /thoseguys/.

The best example is gingers. Have you ever wondered why it's always the gingers that got "blackwashed" in modern reboots and modern iterations?
It's simple: Back then there were a lot of people who used stand gingers as stand-ins for black people, because unlike Black people, gingers were a more "acceptable non-white minority". So what some writers and artists did, is that they made a ginger character and made it's behavior or struggle "black coded" god I hate this term. Mary Jane is one of those. Yes, if the ooriginal editors would have allowed, Peter would be plapping a black woman right now, but the editors saw a lot of potential in Spidey, and they didn't want the contoversy around the character.

Black Gordon just reminds me of the classic black chief of police archetype trying to reign in the white loose cannon from the 80s and 90s but instead of another cop it's Batman. It actually adds to his character as a result by having him black to play into that. Barbara Gordon being black/mixed is a nothing burger too as it adds ebony fanservice to the bat family. We already have a collection of white and even yellow chick secondary characters so having a black one is not too unreasonable.

We are returning to "the fresh prince of bel-air" era of American culture and that is a good thing compared to what we have before.
