AMM, Dark Patters and Seasons are each on my pull and the first two are the only two DC is publishing that are worth reading. Power fantasy and ACE are complete ass juice though.

Seasons is super underrated and under the radar. And I love it. But I do think it could move faster plot-wise. I almost wish it was a guaranteed ongoing (feels like a stealth 12 issue maxi) and that it could wrap up this first storyline and just send the characters off on an adventure.

There's zero debate that DC is putting out better books than Marvel right now. The last two books from Marvel I liked were Clobberin' Time and Predator vs Wolverine (both minis), the ongoings have been trash for decades, and all the minis since I've put on my pull list (Wolverine: Revenge, Spider-Man & Wolverine) have been dog shit as well.

>Absolute Martial Mind****er
I like it. Nice art, cool story. No notes. Definitely the best Absolute title and possibly the best thing DC has going on right now.
>Dark Patterns
It's Batman just the way I like him. A costumed detective solving cases, rather than a superhero saving the world. Good shit.
>The Power Fantasy
It feels a bit too much like Gillen trying to make his own Jupiter's Legacy. I don't hate it, it's just not gripping me so far. The heaven and hell stuff it's been going into does feel more interesting to me than the first few issues though.
>Assorted Crisis Events
Eh, not my thing. Too much navelgazing and while the atypical structures are interesting, he's just not telling an interesting story through them. It's more an attempt at artsy social commentary than a comic book. It's hard not to draw the comparison to AMM where there's also artsy gimmicks and social commentary, but they support the story rather than the other way around.

I haven't read the other two so can't comment on them. I'll probably check them out some time.

There's some other ongoings I'm enjoying right now including Absolute Wonder Woman, Resurrection Man, Moon Knight, Transformers, Void Rivals, Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees, Radiant Black, Rogue Sun, Something Is Killing the Children, The Hunger and the Dusk, W0rldtr33, etc. though I wouldn't like to rank them in a top X list.

Okay, I take that back. Issue 1 of ACE was this fun story that had broadstrokes theming about Covid or Gentrification or something, it was a great setup for the broader setting and how different places in that city could have different stories involving the TAZ events.
Issue 2 followed up on this, but the chopped & ground up timeline of events felt kinda forced to fit the narrative allegory, and the ending was too much of a downer.
Issue 3 felt way too on the nose. Sometimes humorously, but I would've preferred something a little more light-hearted, subvert our expectations by having the town motto triumph in the end.
It was after realizing both of these had terribly depressing endings I went back to issue 1 and reread it with the framing of "this is a oneshot for this character, we'll never get a follow up" and it's just as dreadfully overbearing in its depression as 2 & 3.
These Strange Apocalypse scenarios are mixed with Contemporary Issues into a thin gruel of masturbatory pessimistic nihilism. The punchline of issue #1 doesn't feel like dark humor anymore, it just feels like it hates its audience for expecting light at the end of the tunnel.
Anonymous No.150228763 >>150229160
>>150228643
Issue 4 actually makes good use of its scifi premise to deliver an entire life over the course of a single comic by presenting us with a protagonist who has enormous gaps in his memory. As depressing as any other issue, but not as vindictive in how it delivers it.
Issue 5 does something a little different by separating the trauma of witnessing spousal abuse from the trauma of witnessing a single instance of spousal abuse as a seemingly endless timeloop. It still fits the allegory of how that defining moments seems to play itself over and over like a broken record in the victim's mind, but it also stresses that the protagonist (the daughter of this mutually abusive couple) is experiencing mental strain from the loop itself. This one actually ends on a better note - after a botched suicide attempt, we learn she's sharing her story at Temporal Trauma Anonymous in the hopes hearing it from her can help someone else avoid trying what she did. Shocking that it took that much to get something even remotely approaching positivity.
Time to forget this comic exists again.

I read the first issue of Dark Patterns. I like certain aspects of it: the art for the most part (sometimes, Batman looks too skinny), the investigation (even if it's just Batman telling you everything), the gruesomeness of the crimes. I'm still iffy about how Batman is characterized.
A couple of odd things. One is regarding the tongue and teeth being pulled so that the victims are unable to scream. What? Another was Batman going for the Wound Man's solar plexus, but he's actually going for his throat.
Still, I'm willing to stick with it for a bit.

My thoughts on Radiant Black suffers from it being a monthly that I'm just not invested enough in to stay monthly. I read it in fits and starts, and that trial arc was too god damn weird to half ass a binge and follow it as it released.
