Anon most NuBob defenders are in the agreement that the show is pretty style over substance these days. They just admire the fact that it's expressive animation looks amazing compared to any cartoon on TV currently, you can't convince me that animators tweening rigs on Rick & Morty clone number 292323 are having more fun than the ones drawing fun expressions in NuBob.

The show just needs better writing, Season 11 was the best post-movie season IMO cause it balanced good writing and good animation.

What bothers me is how much modern spongebob intentionally disregards the aesthetic of the show. There are some shots where you literally could not tell it's from Spongebob without context. Like the Ren and Stimpy closeups of the Reindeer or the human kids. Pic related is an example but it still has the flower sky.

Honestly say what you want about modern SpongeBob, but when compared to other shows that have been on the air for 25+ years, it's seasonal rot was probably the least severe.

IMO NuBob isn't bad on its own, its just a completely different show now, and honestly I'd prefer that over an eternity of Tibbitt era-level quality seasons.

Those were the aforementioned Tibbitt seasons, honestly I'm glad that modern SpongeBob has basically became an outlet for cartoonists to showcase their talent, but at the same time you can just tell they're just hosting said great cartooning in a hollowed out corpse.

In a perfect world SpongeBob would've ended at the first movie and we would've gotten tons of wacky cartoons these days with Spumco-like animation rather than a zombie show being the only one doing it. Occasionally there are a couple of good episodes like Bubble Bass Reviews or Delivery of Doom but even they don't come close to the golden age episodes.

Who the fuck cares? The newer episodes are just more like Looney Tunes or Ren & Stimpy like SpongeBob, they aren't offensively terrible like seasons 6-9, they're just chill things you can watch that can occasionally get a couple laughs out, at its worst post-sequel SB is harmless.

Are you guys the same people who complained about the Hazbin Hotel pilot having bad pacing during the songs? Because that's the same thing I'm seeing here. Yeah the drawings are expressive but they're not letting them breathe. There's no rhythm, it would do better as a comic than an animation because they're whiffing the movement part.

I find if funny how literally no other longrunners fandoms are like this, Simpsons fans are all in the agreement that the show is way past its prime but will admit that modern seasons can occasionally have decent episodes and give them actual criticism rather than simply saying "it sucks", and the ones that do refuse to watch the newer seasons don't act like whiny nostalgiafags about it.

It was also just Simpsons was a declining quality while Spongebob was more like.. a total whiplash with the mid seasons.
Look at it like this. Seasons 9-14 of the Simpsons are generally considered a mixed bag era of declining quality but with some genuinely great episodes like Moe's Baby Blues.
Spongebob is more lik, that all condensed because everyone was ready to close shop at season 4 which was the decline era.

The episode in question is A Fish Called Sandy.

Its story is pretty typical and not really much different from other modern episodes (Especially since scientist Sandy was involved) but it looked like an HD S1 and actually looks well done. There’s even a few fun gags throughout.

Its because its a fundamentally different show.
The Simpsons has had tits major decline but the content feels like its trying to be judged on the same criteria as the golden years. As mentioned up thread Spongebob these days is a shell hosting another show working on such fundamentally different axioms the 1-movie that it is unpalatable.
Ironically if the just changed the name so give a clear break or ended the show for a full pivot to The Patrick Star Show most of the complaints would dry up because that line of continuity would be gone and with it any obligation to care.
