It started as a parody of reality shows like The Real World and Big Brother, with the idea being that 8 different cartoon characters "from all over the animated universe" will be made live together in front of a million cameras (Obviously every character is a parody of some kind. Captain Hero is Superman, Ling-Ling is Pikachu, Wooldoor is SpongeBob etc.) but before long they just abandon much of the premise to do whatever the fuck they feel like. Characters routinely die and get horribly maimed. Continuity is next to non-existent.
The closest thing I can think to compare it too in terms of it's quickly abandoned premise and lack of continuity is Aqua Teen Hunger Force, except Drawn Together actually had a good animation budget.
