I think the visual style in Spider-Verse is great but I really don't like the limited framerate gimmick. If anything I'd love to see a 3D animated movie done in HFR but HFR is basically a flop and we'll likely never get to see a film that actually warms up audiences to it, and I think animation would probably have been the best use case scenario for it.

From a tech geek standpoint, you can obviously complain about how it's only done to save money, but from a stylistic standpoint, how is it any worse than any other style choice? The characters don't look like realistic humans. A high frame rate is not going to fool you into thinking the action is real. It amuses me to see people complaining about how it plays with the frame rate like Spiderverse without realizing that the reason for it is because it was done by the same studio and that's a signature style they've developed. It's not as though they're incapable of animating at the traditional framerate, since they do it during action scenes to help make the dynamic movements feel smoother and faster.

In anime, the best animations pull every trick imaginable to make things not look like it's 24 fps and make things look like they flow.

In 3d stutterfests, they take an already smooth motion and restrict the animation rate of the models while rendering at a higher framerate, making movements look janky.

It makes sense for things like Lego movie, because it gives you the impression of stop-motion animation of physical objects.

If you watch closely, they'll even mix high and low FPS animation in the same shot, having both present at the same time, which helps to draw the eye to the movement and the most important character in the scene. I can understand why people complain about it. It's basically mimicking the look of stop-motion animation. That kind of choppy movement just looks wrong to the eye. For a good example, watch the first Terminator movie and take notice of how jarring the shots with stop-motion effects appear. And now you've got this trend where entire movies are animated to look like that.
It can take some time to get used to that kind of animation. Not everyone likes it. I don't have a problem with it anymore, but it was an acquired taste.

Nah, I accepted that it's never going to get a full MV which is fine because it's the climax of the movie and them having the balls to straight up off Jinu, even if they're almost certainly going to bring him back for sequel bait, not even getting hinted at or spoiled is nice, but I didn't know you didn't know to go look for the topic version of the song instead of relying on the MV for the full audio.

It's a shame they're probably going to play conservative with the sequels and keep them Kpop, but I'd love to see the two other girls get their movies with Mira's being about them now confronting a Jpop group and then Zoey's being against an American pop act, with the obvious story beats being that they're trying to expand the Honmoon internationally and these groups are either the local demon hunters that they're muscling in on who may or may not be corrupt.

Being very loose with its magic system gives them a lot of places to go. Like you're right they could take a more international approach and broaden the music genres they tackle. But the movie already kind of implies that doing all their kpop stuff can already strengthen the Honmoon across essentially the entire planet based on all the times we see it engulfing the world.

But I don't think minor canon tweaks like that would be a big deal. What I would be concerned about is how many people might be turned off by the different music types if they really just want it to be Kpop. Get complaints like "Why even call the IP Kpop Demon Hunters" I heard the fans of this genre can get real psycho and defensive. But maybe that's only when it's tied to real people.

Frozen 2's big number didn't manage to live up to Let It Go, even if Into the Unknown was pretty good still, and the biggest draw of KDH was clearly the amazing sound track.

Ultimately that is what it will come down to. Like, when I put on my critic hat and just try to judge the story based on writing and consistency I think it's a very solid film. I think the music just elevated it to the insane highs that it's experiencing.

I know I wouldn't want to try and follow this up, Frozen had one viral hit. KPop Demon Hunters has an entire track of massive bangers. They must know how rare it is for an original IP to be this successful so hopefully they don't try and rush out some slop, I'd only feel comfortable with a new release if the people behind the music say that they've cooked enough.

Yea, I'd agree from a critical standpoint, the story and animation were good, if not mindblowing, but what carried it to the insane heights is the music, and the fact that it was just such a simple and clean movie in an era where Disney and Pixar just fucking refuse to deliver said product, so there's a lot of pent up demand that finally got unleashed because someone made a movie that parents could happily watch alongside their kids and there was no hamfisted political shit involved.

That is true, we have kind of been starved for basic and unchallenging stories of good triumphing over evil, an attractive cast of characters, some great music. It's honestly kind of a throw back in that sense.
