I will say I kind of miss the grim/suspenseful tone of the first Monsterverse Godzilla movie. Kong Skull Island kind of has it too, at least a little, but ever since King Of The Monsters the whole thing's been wacky, TOO wacky for my tastes at times.

KotM went for a grand/epic/mythical scale for the kaiju, and it does work. Unfortunately it's kind of dragged down by dumb jokes and being constantly interrupted by "where's my daughter". Unfortunately Legendary learned the wrong lesson and pivoted way too hard into the other direction. GvK and GxK are by far the weakest in the Monsterverse series
