I'm Japanese American and white hapa. And unfortunately, Asians probably never will be the "in thing" in the US. I'm 38, getting old, and still a virgin. The whites and Mexicans around me absolutely REFUSE to invite me to their parties or anywhere really. Even when I asked to be invited to a party "one of these days." All I got from my white former co-worker was "no, you aren't coming to our parties."
"Certain people" have worked VERY hard to make Asians seem uncool. A Confucian Asian who spends his time working and studying is the polar opposite of a thug gangster. And no, women don't give a sh1t about my hobbies or my philosophy.

From what I've noticed, the most important thing to women is "being a part of a network." Most men find their women "somehow" through their network, through "a friend of a friend." Most country girl women really just find their men through their redneck BBQs and bars. And of course, I'm not invited to those places because I'm an Asian. The whites and Mexicans around me DO NOT want me anywhere near their networks. They may give me fist bumps, say "what's up?' and play board games with me, but they want me to stay away from their parties and networks.
In Scott Pilgrim, Scott only met Ramona through his party networks. Scott was very well networked through his friends, and they all worked very hard to develop the relationship with Ramona. Scott wasn't this amazing "paragon of excellence." He wasn't 6 foot tall, he was poor, and he wasn't this sage philosopher
