my point is there's a reason why Kitty Bobo has generally positive reception as a pilot nowadays, even outside of furry circles. Wastelandia is clearly going for the same 'slice of life tween/early adult furry' thing, but it falls completely flat on its face and fails to be all that enticing compared to Kitty Bobo.

Artists and cartoonists before social media used to just meet up irl and form their own exclusive clubs. They would make zines together, discuss stuff like politics and philosophy together, and just all around act freely and independent of the rest of the world and what trends everybody else is following.
When we watched cartoons as a kid, they came from people who were in these “exclusive clubs” and it would introduce you to a vibe you haven’t felt before.
This is what made cartoons like Kitty Bobo captivating.

Wastelandia doesn’t feel like I’m being introduced to someone else’s unique world. The artstyle, the vibes, the humour and characters is all just shit that just comes from being on social media a lot.
If you’ve been on social media at all, congratulations, you are now just as “unique” and “different” as the creator is.

If nothing else, Kitty Bobo showed things happening to the character, which was engaging. Whereas Wastlandia showed everything in a flashback. This is almost always the wrong choice as it takes the tension out of the narrative. Sure, in a Rashomon type story it can work but it's something to avoid generally. There also weren't really any jokes and the characters weren't established well. We hear that the doctor girl is anxious but we don't really see that, the artist one barely had a personality. The internet one wa alright, but if they were going to do the chronically online thing they should've went further with it. The creator often recaps internet drama so they could've made it something more interesting than complaining about Reddit (no one likes Reddit. Even my wife who uses Reddit thought that was cringe)

Also, (and this is a common writing mistake they shouldn't feel too bad about) the characters are a weird type of pseudo relatable that aren't actually. It's like that Hollywood thing where the characters are written by nepo babies so they act sort of like real people, but they all have these interesting jobs (like being in medical school or art school) that isn't an option for regular people and that they don't relate to and just makes them seem like an Other. Ditto for the fact that they live in a majoretro area and don't seem to have jobs other than the retail worker. It's something that a rich kid wouldn't think about but gives an uncanny valley feeling to regular people. The retail worker is a step in the right direction, but they need to all be real people like that (and she doesn't make enough to live with them in that apartment.)

The city begins to feel like the entire world to people who live there, and it can make for an interesting setting if used correctly, but in these times we live in I think it would be better to set them somewhere that seems more relatable to the average person (not an East Coast seaside town, place)

Unfortunately they also have that obnoxious liberal personality where they have to virtue signal their politics at every opportunity and act like they're more cultured and intellectual than they are. It's like that cringery set up you see where a bunch of them get together to drink wine among theor plants and talk about racial justice (puke.)

That's just a general thing. Honestly, I would recommend just not doing a sitcom about people living in their apartment with no hook. Its boring. If you're doing a slice of life/Iyashakei type thing that can work in animation, but otherwise you typically want to see something a little larger than life. Like you can go anywhere and do most anything in a cartoon without having to worry about logistics and budget, try to take advantage of that. And if you're committed to trying to do it then you need to make the characters relatable, interesting, and funny to a majority of the audience.

The pilot told me this cat was going to be an obnoxious loser desperately trying to find anything to make him cool and I hated it. Did everyone talk about the bad choreography, loser characters and make comparisons to many other sports, toy commercials and monster tournament shows? I read through some of the thread, but none of them go into detail, at most barely 5 people barely mention about the superpower not being used.
I'm asking so that I don't have to do a review on it. Most of the zoomers here seem incapable of going into details and especially comparisons to other shows to form a concrete perspective.


I read Pan's comic and it was far better than the pilot, while ironically also saying back then that Loki's "fairplay" was a "little" retarded and Bianca as a future character doesn't work and should be replaced ... and that was when Biance & Loki weren't losing for 33 minutes straight.

Kitty Bobo didn't do jack shit right. And fun fact about the word Bobo thanks to California being near Mexico I've learned that in Spanish the word "bobo" means stupid, moron, idiot, etc. So whenever I hear you idiots spamming Kitty Bobo trying to get anyone to acknowledge this awful show the only thing that comes to mind is "Oh that's the show about the literal STUPID Cat."

And it was indeed a stupid cartoon. Trying to be grounded and semi realistic but with anthro animals is just idiotic and it really doesn't help that the art style is fucking shit at least things like King of the Hill having a more grounded art style worked but these shitty looking anthros they look shittily designed. I can see why kids didn't gravitate to this show. Even other animated cartoons that had a grounded take on presentation like Nickelodeon's Hey Arnold still had outlandish things happening to spice things up like dealing with urban legends so that the show wasn't so flat and boring.

Wastelandia I gave a shot to right now because of this thread. It was AWFUL. The intro song alone is shit. The main characters being a bunch of obvious failures is not appealing. And was the rabbit girl voiced by a shitty tranny? She had the worst voice.

And the story is a whole lot of nothing. Basically its the characters bitching about off screen incidents in their lives interacting with no one except the cashier cat girl who did interact with those rude customers so there's no concept of an antagonist character. And the dialogue like "normie" and "cringe" is bad when applied to a real media series. I expect this kind of slang in forums or image boards or reddit and such but not in real life. No one actually speaks like that to other people because its embarrassing to speak like that in your day to day.

And the resolution to the conflict was bad the three Girl Failures say that they are going to do something about their lives and its to do NOTHING while conveniently someone ELSE started a fire to burn the city. I don't know why the writers chose to do this maybe its to keep the main protagonists as likable because being arson criminals is not going to make them admirable. But having them sit and do nothing to resolve their issues while the entire story of the pilot is how they do nothing except talk around their obstacles in life? This is awful trash.

Nothing happens. These characters are shit. And I hate everything about this shit. And the art style is not that good, seen better furry art styles.
