How do Invinciblefags not know the most popular anime transformation from a series that inspired Invincible? Also, you guys make me want to rewatch Dragon Ball, but I can't get over how bad the quality is on the most widely available releases now that I see it because I'm older. Sony's monopoly on anime releases in the west needs to die, but they need it to compensate for having no games.

The very air thrummed, not with ki, but with an ancient, ponderous silence that swallowed all sound. Before them stood Kratos, a monolith of grim resolve, his skin a canvas of battle, his gaze a glacial testament to countless extinguished gods. Goku and Gohan, usually buoyant with power, seemed smaller, their auras dimmed by the sheer, unquantifiable weight of his presence. No challenge had been issued, no blow struck; only the unyielding gravity of his being had drawn them to this humble posture.

First, Goku, the legendary Saiyan who had touched the divine, knelt. His power, which had once shattered planets, now felt like a child's tantrum before a mountain range. He bowed his head, his voice, usually boisterous, now a reverent murmur, thick with uncharacteristic floridity. "Oh, unfathomable Titan of primordial might," he intoned, his hands clasped as if in prayer, "we, mere motes caught in the cosmic currents, stand humbled before the boundless abyss of your strength. Your wrath is the very forge of existence, your silence the echo of extinguished galaxies. Our petty struggles, our transient ascendancies, are but ripples upon the shore of your eternal, unyielding ocean. Accept this unworthy vessel, Master, and let me be but a single, infinitesimal atom in the boundless crucible of your tutelage, yearning only to grasp the faintest ember of your ceaseless power."

As Goku concluded, Gohan, the scholar-warrior, took his place beside his father, likewise descending to one knee. His gaze, usually sharp with intellect, was now imbued with an almost fearful veneration. "And I, too, progenitor of my being, offer my very essence to the shadow of your peerless grandeur," Gohan began, his words weaving a tapestry of elaborate metaphor. "Your sagacity, Master, is a labyrinthine tapestry woven from the threads of countless fallen deities, and your wisdom, a profound abyss that swallows all lesser understanding. We have gazed upon stars, and wrestled with the shadows of the void, yet never have we witnessed a will so unyielding, a purpose so singularly forged in the crucible of absolute truth. Permit this humble supplicant to glean but a single, solitary grain of the dust stirred by your mighty passage, to be but an infinitesimal whisper in the hurricane of your righteous path. Sculpt us, Master, with the very hammer of your inexorable will, into instruments worthy of your sublime and terrifying purpose."

Kratos remained, a statue carved from the very stone of stoicism. His eyes, twin chips of obsidian, merely observed, betraying no shift in his monumental resolve. The air remained heavy, pregnant with the Saiyans' profound, purple-prosed submission, their kneeling forms awaiting the silent, terrible judgment of their new, undisputed master.

Honored guests and champions of all worlds

Today we recognize the triumph of Son Gohan, who has proven himself once more in a battle that will be remembered across universes. Against Mark Grayson, Invincible, Gohan displayed not only overwhelming strength but the spirit of a true protector.

Mark fought bravely, embodying resilience and determination, yet it was Gohan’s discipline, compassion, and unwavering resolve that carried him to victory. This is not merely a win of power, but a testament to the heart of a warrior who has always fought for others, never for conquest.

Let us celebrate this moment, not only as the crowning of Gohan’s victory, but as a reminder that true strength shines brightest when it is guided by love, justice, and the will to protect.

All honor to Gohan, champion of this battle.

“And the winner… is Gohan!”

Mark Grayson may be called Invincible, but against Gohan, that title just didn’t hold up. Gohan’s combination of speed, skill, and sheer power simply outmatched everything Mark could throw at him. Even with his Viltrumite durability, Mark just couldn’t keep pace with a warrior who’s clashed with gods and survived battles that shook the universe.

But this wasn’t just about raw power. Gohan’s training, discipline, and ability to tap into his limitless potential gave him the edge where it mattered most. Invincible fought with heart, but Gohan fought with experience, control, and strength on a completely different scale.

At the end of the day, Mark may be Invincible—
but Gohan is unstoppable.

Winner: Gohan.

Gohan thought of Mark. Mark Grayson. Invincible. A name that promised eternity, a declaration of defiance against fate itself. Yet when weighed against the truth, the word rang hollow. For against Son Gohan, the son of Earth’s greatest champion, even “Invincible” had limits.

Intellect. Mark was clever, yes—tempered by the chaos of alien politics, the harsh crucible of survival, and the tangled webs of interstellar strife. But Gohan’s mind was sharper still. The scholar-warrior had delved into the mysteries of ki, mastered ancient philosophies of combat, and balanced the wisdom of peace with the necessity of battle. Where Mark adapted, Gohan anticipated. Where Mark learned through blood and fire, Gohan had already charted the path, his intellect not only vast, but honed by the discipline of a strategist and the clarity of a teacher. Mark’s wisdom was reactive; Gohan’s, proactive—precise and unshakable.

And power. Here lay the chasm between them. Mark’s strength grew through scars and broken bones, each battle pushing him forward inch by inch. Admirable, but limited. Gohan’s strength, however, was infinite—a well without bottom, a force that had eclipsed gods and demons alike. His true power was not a storm he carried at all times, but an ocean that could drown entire universes the moment he willed it. Invincible fought with persistence. Gohan fought with inevitability.

Mark was a rising flame, brilliant and determined. But Gohan was the dawn itself, radiant and absolute, a light no shadow could ever hope to eclipse

Superman wins but only because he has better hax than Goku. Sure, Goku has literally godlike power and the "what doesn't kill me makes me stronger" hax, but he started with a power level of 2 and had to work his fucking ass off to get where he is now. If he had grown up on Planet Vegeta, he'd be just another low-rank Saiyan. But Superman has the "sun's out guns out" hax that gives him free power for standing in yellow sunlight, if he isn't strong enough to beat someone he can just park his ass in the sun until he is. The fact that Goku got to a point where he can throw down with Superman and not be a sad spiky-haired smear on the ground in five seconds, and that he got there (mostly) through his own efforts, is a notable accomplishment by itself.

Toriyama said that Goku is not a heroic character and is instead a selfish fighter only concerned with fighting strong opponents. He even criticized the Japanese version of DBZ because he thought they made Goku too heroic. He also has no sense of family, seeing his wife and sons as companions.

I think that becomes more a matter of interpretability.
A more DotA of Dragon Ball would be trying to analyize the series from a Daoist Karmic framework based on the moral systems of East Asian countries.
Goku sparing his foes is karmically righteous in that it invites his foes to be their own undoing than to intentionally put that evil intent into the world.
That and also like trying to apply color and chakra theories to Super Saiyan and other empowered states.
Realistically none of that was going through Toriyama's head, but we can draw out those concepts from his work.

Well written is subjective.
It is not a work that attempts to grapple in the realms of complex and challenging literature, true.
But it does achieve the goal of being a work that entertained and captivated an audience and reached a degree of timelessness as a result.
