Hello Anons young and old, the webcomic Unsounded has just finished (with a sequel on the way) and so those of us who enjoy it thought a group reread via storytime would be a fun thing to do. I'll be storytiming in blocks that match the planned volumes we know and my own best guess at how the future volumes will be laid out. Today we've got a chunky one, the longest by just a few pages.

I don't have a well written pitch prepared aside from saying it has been, for the 15 years I've been reading it, the best webcomic out there in my opinion. It's fantasy, it's dark, it's funny, the characters are at turns loveable and hateable. It really is just fantastic. If a fellow reader would care to convince our fellows Anons I'd be more than happy to include it in future threads.

We've now passed what is available in the most recent Kickstarter so which chapters included is mere guesswork on my end. Speaking of the Kickstarter, it just ended with a rather respectable $154,125 raised from 2,246 backers, her most successful one to date. Though the last one was years ago at this point so I would sure hope so.

If you just can't wait to continue you can read all 18 chapters over on the official website but storytimes are great fun so even if you do read ahead, come back and join us the future Sundays. With that said, let's get started.

I think it makes perfect sense that she can be asexual while also feeling embarrassed about looking like a child. She wants to be big and tall and imposing, she doesn't want tits.

This was really the point where people realize Unsounded was going to be something far , far above the bar in the webcomics scene.

Duane's religiosity is such an interesting part of his character for me. You rarely get a character portrayed where their beliefs truly are the lens upon how the character interacts with the world. So many other deeply religious characters fall flat if the author isn't really religious or are overly preachy and Correct if the author is.

This is what I didn't quite get on my first read.

So
1. Nary's reasoning for not informing Sette of the real smuggling plan was based on need-to-know
2. Stockyard was always 100% on Nary's side.
3. Anadyne and the Mask were just a redundancy in case Sette, whom Stockyard was told was coming, proved too schizo to control Duane?
4. Together, Sette would take Duane to the port while Stockyard helped with the Silver
5. After this Stockyard would take his share from (???) and leave the town.

This was stockyard's actual plan until Sette bailed on him here.

While anadyne as his confidante was no-selling the plan saying they would be betrayed by literally every party involved and secretly planned to abandon the family, encouraged also because she could no longer tolerate stockyard's constant switches between abuse and simping and the other Frummagem's total disregard for her.

No wait. I don't think he sold Sette. . I think I missed out on a bit of the plan: Stock was going to travel with the silver and Duane for a month. So presumably sette was meant have gone with them as Ana reminded Stock, and return after they delivered Duane. Sette was not getting betrayed at any point, just informed of the change of plans.
So Sette fucked the whole plan up by bailing on Stock to help Duane, made even worse as Stock goes nuts when the lizards told him about Ana's betrayal.
Meaning the mask was an actual redundancy in case Stock was right about Sette being too retarded. And he was. Jeez.

Of course, there's always the possibility that the plan was a red herring to let Nary hand sette over to the handlers of her brother. Whether that's a betrayal or the best thing Nary ever did for Sette is up for debate.

Real question now is: Did Cutter straight up fuck up?
