I have spoken before about the terrible parents of egs, but Arthur here takes the grand prize. Knows his grand daughter is a target as he is someone with a lot of enemies, does not have her training magic from a young age, to prevent exactly what happens to her. And later after his failings permanently scar her mind, he still refuses to give her even basic magic training, and he never gets her a spellbook to properly use her magic, even after his failing cause her to wind up fully awakened wizard. This is gross incompetence of the highest level. Even Edward at least managed to get people their own spell books.

How can anyone so detached even interact with reality beyond screaming?

My main issue with this comic is the pacing, so many of its pages are for either explaining things an average reader should be able to easily figure out or infer by just reading, or this borderline Socratic dialogues where two characters work as mouthpieces for the author to talk about something that interest him or something he believes in. Is insane how this comic is technically two comics, it has been updating many times per week for years and the story has barely advanced as it. How does anyone who actually reads it as it goes manages to keep interest?

It mainly the first few stories that hook people. Their was much better pacing, characters had their own distinct personalities, some good, and at least one great story-line. But after Dan exhausted his pre-written and plotted story, at Grace's birthday party, things took a notable downturn. I do like everything up to that point. But after that and Dan keep things going without any hard plan, to keep his worst traits in check.

Which you can clearly see as the number of things people have complaints with the comic jumped noticeable after that in this storytime. Characters quickly started losing their personalities, to becomes mouthpieces for the Shive. Could you even imagine the modern characters even hinting at swearing. Word vomit took the place of character interactions, and expressions, and then Dan started using 3D models, which made everything stiff, and blank face.

Just these two singular panels convey more personality, and emotion better then a dozen entire pages of the modern comic.

My biggest complaint with this children's card game tournament is how little screentime Sarah had in conparison to how important she was to Hope's plot

While the Hope arc still has not introduced Hope to the full cast, only 5 of the main 8 core cast have interacted with her.

So arguably even Hopes introduction arc is still ongoing which means it still a good old

It doesn’t help he keeps giving her plotlines and personality quirks to Ashley. Heck, I’m shocked that Dan didn’t have Hope go to Ashely instead of Sarah out of spite.

The natural thing is Sarah and Hope but he made the stupid mistake of putting Sarah with the Pooner Nobody Likes and because time moves so slowly in EGS means he's too worried about just nixing it probably a couple of weeks (in universe) after it started. Sarah was like the big key towards Pandora basically turning good and a lot of how Pandora reset herself is tied up in wanting to maintain her connection to Sarah specifically. Hell, Hope even looks kind of like a dark haired Sarah (ignoring sameface, there's similar hair and clothing styles right down to Hope having a hair band). She's way too important to Pandora/Hope and the story with her and their reunion just kind of falls flat. They hug and that's really it, Hope (and the story) spends more time on fucking Jay.

He's screwed up a lot with her like giving her story to Ashley but the way to write Sarah is tat she's still, largely, the biggest no nonsense character in the cast. She doesn't get overwhelmed by the nonsense, isn't afraid to be blunt and call people out on things (in a sensible way). It feels like, if she were more like the older version, she'd be telling everyone to just get on with everything instead of standing around apologizing all the time and overexplaining shit. She's also largely the horniest of the main characters. But I think a lot of her traits were also copied over to Ashley who essentially took he spot in the group. If Ashley doesn't exist, then Sarah's better off and Elliot can just hook up with Liz or Susan or Sandi or Nanase's mother or anyone else who's not Ashley.

But I guess I'm a little biased. Sarah is far and away my favorite of the main characters and and my favorite overall character so it's annoying to see her constantly sidelined or have her shit taken by other characters. Liz, Lucy and Melissa are my favorite supporting/minor characters.

Chimera transformations get absorbed and learned by her. Seemingly a true greater Chimera which would add any transformation to her warform, same as Grace. So transformation magic is between useless, to the worse possible thing to use against Po.

Never been gotten into, but Dan had made it clear Uruyom's are like very early Luffy from One Piece, with his god mode powers scaled down to fit. Extra limbs, extra eyes, they can shape shift a lot.

Chimeras come in three types with two having the same name to be extra confusing.

Lesser Chimeras, do not have Uruyom DNA, cannot gain forms, but can exit a transformation at will.

Greater Chimeras "should just be Chimeras" have Uruyom, DNA, they can learn new forms by being transformed, but cannot go byond their base forms, of their DNA or whatever the single best thing they have been transformed into.

True Greater Chimeras have both Uruyom, and Lespuko DNA. This on top of the prior stuff, gives them 3 tails, and lets them combine mix and match everything they have ever been transformed into. A normal GC could do showcase transformation like Grace was doing, when they where designing Male V5. The big thing this unlocks is a Warform where they combine all the best aspects of everything they have ever been transformed into. Letting them punch much much higher then the other types.

It's the last time EGS fealt even vaguely like EGS before it descended into exposition autism and characters apologizing and losing all bits of personality they had. There's stuff for most of the characters to do, even minor ones like Melissa. It's the one time Justin is actually relevant.

I don't know if I have one least favorite; that entire stretch from Sister 3 through Balance is probably the comic's absolute nadir. Sister 3 is really bad because like I've said before the entire Sirleck/Magus plot thread is just rushed through after having been built up for so long taking away one of the more interesting or menacing villains like a complete bitch. The New World includes the ruination of Diane, a fucking Sam story and the boring/overly long basement party. Balance is just a lot of Uryuom exposition that I don't give a single shit about.

Dan managing to get all the cast to one area, to make meetings and conversation between everybody easier. Something Dan has stated to have wanted to do since at least 2017. And reminder the 6 month time jump happened in Feb 1, 2013. While 2017 predates magics not change. So for a fully 8 year buildup, with no payoff despite having an easy out of magic changing, and jumping forward to the fallout a few months later.

Hell not even managing to get the cast to graduation day, something that been coming since the very first comic, a full 23 years ago. Hell they are not even thou finals week.

I think their respective impact speaks for itself.

The Wotch while having been dead for a while now. inspired an entire generation of transformation art, and writing. Pretty much most any story or artwork, in the west that features transformation for the last 2 decades, has been directly, or indirectly influenced by the Wotch.

The Wotch's use of characters, story, pacing, and how well it handled its core premise of a transformation story. The transformation mattered, people where changed by their experiences, no matter how short.

EGS, meanwhile has had almost no impact on the wider world. The only truly good story it had was Nanase's coming out, and getting together with Ellen. But after a certain point all the characters where Shived, and became one person. Over dialoguing became the norm. Always introducing new characters that meant nothing. The magic system which should be super fun, never gets used for random shenanigans. But worst of all is is stuff like Susan/Diane not being twins. It something all the fans wanted, and it was a great story idea. It would have introduced some drama, and stakes. Sure it would have required some retcons to make it fit yes, was Dan willing to take the risk nope. That EGS failing it never takes risks.

Wotch reached for the stars and while it might not have made it all they way, it at least reached the moon, its impact on transformations, will be felt for hundreds of years. EGS will be remembered if at all, as an example of the dangers, of living in an echo chamber, and always playing it safe, instead of taking risks.

See this picture Dan made. He talks himself out of doing the things Damian needed to be an actual threat. And this is far from the only thing even as far back as the first few days. All the dark and threatening things where being excised, even in the first few years. As it went on you get to the modern comic where the prime mook minion the vamps are all dead. I disagree. The entire reason people wanted it was because they "looked similar" even though they really don't and Diane, especially post-haircut, looks more like a skinnier Sarah. I also don't like how many characters are related to each other/Tedd because basically the whole main cast is or will possibly be at some point except for Justin.

Diane should have just been her own person and also retained an aspect of her bitchy alpha girl personality, like being the group's Emma Frost. How she was during the not-Tengu storyline was basically the perfect way to do it: still good, warming up to the main group but still having a bit of edge to her.

So from this we learn a lot in the original plot which goes to Graces party, most plots are very short and move much quicker then the modern comic.. With only Sister Painted Black taking up 9 months each, and the party which wraps up the existing stuff well take a little over a year.
With a full average of 4.3 month per arc
Or counting everything pre Sister as one single arc, it comes out to. 6.1 months per arc.

After we exit the initial plot the average length jumps to 7.1 months per arc
But is you discount the shortest of all arch Dark Allegiance at sub 1 month it becomes 8.4 months per arch. A pretty sudden and big jump from the prior length of arcs, no matter which numbers your taking.

Then after the time jump discounting the current ongoing arc as we do not know how long it will be.

The average comes out to 11.2 months per arc. And that being generous with not combing a few of the shorter things into slightly longer arcs as they are listed on Dan's site. Which would boost the numbers to 13.2 months per arc.

Sad part is that the 3 comics totaling just 15 pages, have more emotions, character development, and fun with the magic system, then the main comic has in hundreds of pages.
