It's funny we've talked about wasted potential in this thread, because it's a Ty Lee thread and Ty Lee herself always felt like a huge example of wasted potential in the show for me.

She's got a fun personality, she's really cute, and she's got an interesting skillset (martial artist/chi blocker). Yet we don't really see a lot of what she's like. There's "The Beach," but if anything that episode just left me more disappointed because of the things it hinted at that the show didn't do anything with before, and didn't do anything with after. We find out she's one of a bunch of sisters, but the show basically does nothing with this. She says to Zuko "I know you," implying that she has some insight into Zuko's true nature, but the show never explores this and doesn't do anything with the connection between Ty Lee and Zuko after she says it.

She's a massive example of a waste of potential to me, and she makes me wish we'd gotten that fourth season Ehasz has sometimes talked about, because maybe she could have been used more in it.

Honestly the reason people latched on to Zuki, other than the innate fun of shipping, is because it probably has more actual romantic feeling than any of the pairings in ATLA, even Kataang. I like Zuki, and I think Yang was clearly hinting at it here and there (for his own reasons) but it doesn't fit the canon (Suki and Zuko had ZERO interaction other than "you burned down my village," in ATLA) and you can also just as easily assume their relationship was just close but friendly, and nothing else. And if we are to go by canon, indeed nothing happened between them.

It's fun, and even hot, and I agree that Yang had potential at that front, but I still much prefer Sukka. To give credit to Bryke, it's a good pairing and it works, but since romance was pretty much an afterthought in the whole show, we didn't see much of it.
