Who cares about award shows? They’re nothing but circlejerks on a higher budget

Also I fucking hope K-Slop Semen Hunters doesn’t win, it’s a literal slop film that just so happened to get lucky, normies don’t love that shit, it’s only children who beg their parents to turn it on for them and online autists and ecelebs that like it, iPad kids are why the film got so many views.

I guessing between Arco or Kpop Demon Hunters

Kpop Demon Hunters has a high chance for not being a sequel, being a meme this year, the kids and grandkids will make sure the voters will notice it, and 97% rotten tomatoes score. Highest scoring rotten tomatoes among that group listed right now

As much as I like Ne Zha 2, it has a high disadvantage of being
>a sequel
>a chinese film with chinese tropes and mythology that some may have trouble grasping
>voters that won't like the grossout humour

This year voters will have to see all the movies nominated so if Ne Zha 2 gets nominated, that may help, but I remember seeing an article saying some voters cheat by leaving the laptop open on the screening page, but then walk away to go do something else. Some might do that with Ne Zha 2 if the see it's Chinese with grossout humour in the first half of the film, or they tune out completely because they were already planning to vote another film first anyway

It won't be Kpop Demon Hunters, because the bourgeoisie cunts making the choices won't give it to a Netflix movie. It also won't be Zootopia or The Bad Guys, because they're too "normal" and the fart sniffers wouldn't be able to make a faggy statement with those choices.
So, the only two choices are Arco for the faggot cred, or Ne Zha 2 to cuck out to the Chinese. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's going to be Arco because it's gay and has all the faggy "art movie" Oscar bait hallmarks. It was designed in a lab to win at the Oscars.

Not all of them will dislike it, but some may find the piss drinking and vomiting and farting in faces a bit much, so they might write it off as an immature film

Shrek is a comedy so that sort of humour is expected, but if you open with a big serious battle, and then afterwards do all the grossout stuff, it can throw off people that dislike the tonal switch

Only Chinese retards actually say this.
YES it made a lot of money. BUT it only made a lot of money because the Chinese command economy literally pushed it on their own populace and made them go see it because of social credit bullshit.
They literally bussed in peasants to go see it multiple times because it was a matter of national pride to force the movie to succeed.
When you say
>HURR, it's great because it's the highest grossing movie le ever!
You're really missing some basic issues at play here. It didn't gross a fuckload of money because it's good, it grossed a fuckload of money because it was literally forced by an authoritarian regime.

It got shit reviews at Venice, so no. It’s done.
>Hosoda tries to frame Scarlet’s journey as one of healing: revenge will not ease her trauma, and compassion must replace rage. But this arc is handled clumsily. At one point, Scarlet inexplicably dreams herself into a Japanese La La Land sequence, dancing joyfully with Hijiri through colorful streets. She awakens, cuts her hair, and renounces vengeance: an emotional pivot that feels unearned, more costume change than revelation.

>The film’s problems pile up. Hosoda’s familiar themes—time collisions, relationships evolving in unexpected directions—surface only in distorted form, while the overwrought melodrama grates. Scarlet spends much of the film screaming or sobbing, her fury building toward outcomes that carry little weight. The final anti-war message is not objectionable in itself but embarrassingly naïve in execution, suggesting today’s world is a war-free utopia.
climate.

>Even the animation falters. Large-scale crowd sequences, with thousands of independently moving figures, are technically impressive, but character animation often looks stiff and robotic. Facial expressions slip into uncanny valley territory, particularly in the dreamlike dance scene, where experiments with fluid movement only highlight the awkwardness. The contrast between these sequences and the more traditional animation is jarring.

>In the end, Scarlet mistakes ambition for depth. It throws Shakespeare, isekai, melodrama, and grand anti-war statements into a single pot, only to produce a muddled, incoherent mix. Bloated at over two hours, violent and overwrought at its climaxes, and hampered by uneven visuals, it fails to make us care about its heroine’s tragedy. For a director who has given us works as resonant as Wolf Children, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Belle, and Mirai, this film is not just a disappointment: it’s a serious misstep.

Kpop Demon Hunters did not "rake in billions." It's on Netflix which everyone is already subscribed to, and the theatrical engagement, while a big success, only brought in about $20 million. Sony only made $20 million from their deal with Netflix for the movie + whatever they got from the theatrical singalong engagement, and we'll never know how Netflix actually measures "profit" on a movie, and they're never going to tell us the actual data for how many people watched it either. We know it's a huge hit but calling it a "billion dollar movie" is simply not correct.

The highest grossing movie of the year is Ne Zha 2 but it's irrelevant outside of China, so that means the current highest grossing (international) movie of the year is The Bad Guys 2. It didn't perform as well as I was hoping it would but it was made on a budget of $80 million so it's already past the profit threshold. And in any case, profitability doesn't have anything to do with whether or not a movie wins an Oscar, even if it can get your foot in the door for a nomination.

This year was overall a bad year for the box office. Some of it has to to with fatigue from bad movies in years prior and audiences being less willing to open their wallets at the movie theater, but there are possibly other external factors that analysts are going to have to figure out, like ineffective marketing that isn't reaching the audience it needs to, and too many back-to-back summer blockbusters.

Zootopia 2 is the default frontrunner for now. It's Disney, so that's an automatic contender unless it faceplants and it won an Oscar before. There are also two films from the Annecy Festival that could comfortably be nominated: ARCO and Little Amélie.

Netflix, which has become a regular contender in this category every year, has the film In Your Dreams, or it might be nominated for KPop Demon Hunters. The music branch of the Academy is notoriously cliquey, but a certified Billboard hit gives them no excuse to ignore you.

Pixar has a long history with the Academy, so I think Elio has a comfortable spot for nomination.

If there IS a Japanese anime film that *might* get nominated, it would still be Scarlet. It was met with mixed reception in Venice, but Venice was also booing Fight Club and it still got nominated. It just needs better reception from TIFF and NYFF. It also drops on December so it's still fresh in voters' minds and eligible for major awards. Additionally, Hosoda has clout, being nominated for Mirai.

Shounenshit never had any chance there, because they're not standalone and their format are not built got theaters. They're really just TV episodes.

I think for the ones who'll be nominated for Best Animated Feature are:
>Zootopia 2
>KPop Demon Hunters
>ARCO
>Little Amélie
>Elio
Sequel movies rarely ever win the Oscars because the Academy generally prefers original, standalone films rather than follow-ups. So for that, I think KPop Demon Hunters will win this even though Zootopia 2 looks to be the favorite.

If Elio gets nominated and not The Bad Guys 2 I'm gonna be pissed. Bad Guys 2's animation ground Elio's into the dust and on top of that it was much better reviewed. The only reason I could see Elio getting a nomination is because they feel sorry for it and they're mad about the test audiences causing Disney to de-gay it.
