Spongebob
Does he deserve the worldwide fame?
Anonymous No.150315387 [Report] >>150315481
The first three seasons are truly excellent, no modern cartoon can match them. Not even Spongebob can. I'd say he's earned it.
Anonymous No.150315400 [Report]
Yeah the first three seasons were some of the funniest shit ever put to animation, it's on the same tier as golden age Simpsons and the original Tom and Jerry shorts. Even if the show eventually degraded those three seasons alone make it deserved.

He's the modern day Mickey Mouse or Bugs Bunny. A cultural zeitgeist that will be remembered for centuries.

SpongeBob got so popular cause his cartoon managed to strike the perfect balance between standard cartoony stuff and grounded storytelling that people can relate to. He’s earned it.

I do like how SpongeBob is starting to become a timeless cartoon, it’s going up there with Looney Tunes and Tom in Jerry in levels of universal recognizability, keep in mind that Nick still reruns episodes from the golden age so the newer generations can watch them, I agree that nothing can hold a candle to the episodes from the golden age, not even the best modern SB episodes, but that’s the case with other timeless cartoons as well. People in charge of modern Looney Tunes stuff try, but stuff like The Day the Earth Blew Up just can’t compare to greatness of the OG Bob Clampett shorts it was inspired by.

Some of those theatrical shorts they made in the 90s actually managed to match the OG shorts IMO, like Carrotblanca. I wish they just made more of those.

All staff members should be flayed alive for what they have turned Hillenburg's creation into after his death

No.

Spongebob is truly an awful character. He's an annoying manchild sperg. And how his theatrical movie is about how he will embrace being a manchild is simply a terrible moral. In fact Spongebob started to act MORE annoying and infantile that a later episode of the show had the entire population of Bikini Bottom abandon the town strictly to get a break from dealing with Spongebob's annoying antics.

Really goes to show that Spongebob is an awful character. Never liked him and I hate how he's still ongoing.

So question, how does Spongebob's music work? Like was most of this stuff just public domain that anyone could've used beforehand, or did they have to license/pay for all of these?

its almost all traditional age old sailor folk music, isnt it? if the specific version is not part of a free use stock music library they might have just recorded any covers for any particular piece they needed?

I think some songs were licensed and that's why they don't show up anymore in the newer seasons.

There are tons of Simpsons memes that originated from their post-golden age seasons and you don’t see Simpsons fans complaining.
