Groening and Cohen somehow convinced themselves that (A) there's that strong of a demand for more Futurama and that (B) they still knew how to write the show the same way they did at the turn of the millennium.

B also applied to the Comedy Central run, but at least that one wasn't preceded by as huge of a gap. There was a 10-YEAR GAP between "Meanwhile" and Hulurama. These new episodes NEVER had a chance

This is because they kept the same writers that were making new IPs that were flopping massively.
It's not a new/old IP issue. It's a crew quality issue.

Despite the risk of attracting the retarded Indonesian tribefag, look at the Owl House as an example. While its whatever 10 writers were doing each a different thing, which led to a first season that had episodes contradicting episodes at every step, the director, the one in charge of reading all scripts and saying "no no, this doesnt work with this, rework it", she was too busy shitting herself on Twitter to actually do her job as a director instead. And then of course immediately blamed it on the company and labeled Disney, of all people, as homophobes.
The problem is obviously the director. But nope, lmao, rehired already and off to laze around while another unsupervised mess is produced at a different company.
