One week in and Light of the World is performing well critically, not just because of concerted review bombing and overwhelming support from its target audience and mysteriously aggressive marketing, but also because, like The Prince of Egypt, it appears to be a genuinely well-made and intentioned film in an era of low-effort slop.
It proves that if a project receives adequate promotional support and focuses on a niche audience instead of trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator with watered-down, non-offfensive Grubhub blandishments, 2D can still hold its own, even with cheap-looking, less visually unimpressive TV series grade animation
