>Geoff Johns leaves DC Comics and takes several artists and writers with him
>starts his own comic company and comic books
>is already forgotten

>DC Comics makes the Absolute books
>the Absolute books become the highest selling DC comics
>Absolute Batman is popular

What happened?!! What went wrong?!!

Why did Ghost Machine fail while the DC Absolute Universe succeeded

Because normies prefer established IPs to original/“original” ideas. It is partially why stuff like Minecraft, Spider-Man, and Super Mario make billions.

People eat up slop from existing IPs more readily than from new IPs. Basically, they prefer "same shit, different asshole" over "different shit, same asshole".
Also, John's is boring and his artists are boring.

MAYBE if the Ghost Machine comics had actual movies or shows (like Invincible) then people would talk about them.

Because the Ghost Machine comics were lame. They had the freedom to make anything they want and instead created a bunch of generic superheroes and family trite.

Geoff Johns was always overrated and coasting off his greatest hit which was reviving Green Lantern.

After the Nu52 he’s been just as shit as modern day Bendis.

His last hit was new52 Aquaman. Everything else since has been hard carried by amazing artists and his past projects.

Doomsday Clock sucked and took forever, Three Jokers sucked and read like a fucking Wattpad fiction.

Readers need to come to terms that all your favorite writers will slip out of their prime just like your favorite boxers and MMA athletes. They’ll all eventually have career turns and downfalls like Roy Jones Jr, Mike Tyson, or Evander Holyfield

In order to gain success as a new property, you need to hit the ground running and exploding.
The Big Two half-ass it, fail, then go crawling back to Batman, Superman, etc.

I still enjoyed the first Geiger and Junkyard Joe stories. They very obviously feel like scrapped "Rebirth" takes on The Atomic Knights and G.I.Robot though.

First impressions last. This is a perfect cover, perfect title, holy shit dude my 10yo self digs in my pockets for coins.

Meanwhile >>150327923 (OP) Bats is bats again. Nothing new under the sun but I know what I'm getting. Not very exciting but doesn't have to be.
Finally Ghost Machine's cover takes too long to take in. It's only when I'm about to post I finally see there's three people. There are some cool details but it also comes off as some esoteric porn my uncle reads. I wouldn't even take it off the shelf for a browse.

Being established is about more than having adapted material. Of course those help exposure but they don't secure readers.
Things like Savage Dragon had cartoons and while it's maintained a readership the chances are it's more from those who followed Larsen from his art career before all that, along with anyone morbidly curious about some of its wild narrative swerves.

>>150328051
The thing is comic writers pointedly pitching to TV and movies can't really hit the ground running because it would mean sending a script that asks a studio to try a trial effort that might cost more than you can guarantee a return.
I'm not excusing it, mind, just explaining how it becomes obvious who's writing for what medium based on the pace of their premise.

You're right about the Big Two though, I'm not sure why OP asked such a pointless question. Absolute is just another pseudo-relaunch of recognizable properties to rinse and repeat.

The same reason why video game or /tv/ comics dont sell make it big.
They are shit universes/mediums handled by shit writers/artists.
It doesnt help that his books are just pitches for /v/ and /tv/.

Wrong. Minecraft is a new original stuff. It is roughly 15 years old.
And Invincible, Walking Dead and Dogman disproofs you.
You could even Mangas getting big like One Punch, My Hero and DanDan shows people can make new stuff big.

The problem is you need advertisment and a certain lucky moment. And this needs to lead to good word of mouth like Adventure Time, Steves Universe, Rick&Morty.

You literally just contradicted yourself. Something that is fifteen years old is not old.

It was one of the highest selling video games and loved by millions even before the movie.

People like new IPs. They just need to be good.

>>150328374
>Videogames
Still a new IP. Regarding Mario, Battlefield, Resident Evil or Warcraft new IPs dont have it that easy to break in.
>Invincible and Walking Dead did not become huge until after they got adaptations.
Walking Dead was huge before the series. Thats why they realised the series. Invincible was huge, thats why they adapted it. Were you born yesterday?

Doesnt change that it was a new IP. And people still like new IPs.

To be fair, Savage Dragon would get another cartoon with Larsen being the lead writer and no control, I guarantee you normalfags would be talking about it.
I could basically see the various assorted ecelebs making Youtube titles like "The CRAZIEST Superhero Show Ever" with attention-grabbing thumbnail.
Original Savage Dragon was kind of a boring generic 90s action cartoon, so it simply couldn't stand out

Anonymous No.150332526 [Report]
The lion share of Johns success came from either rooting through other writers garbage for ideas or stapling tragic backstories onto existing characters

I don't know what you expected from his original work
