First episode was about how fruit is infinitely more expensive than McDonald's (easily untrue) and this is due to the McDonald's boss owning both the fruit and the burger industry but preferring to have losses on the fruit to maintain earrings on the burger (instead of on both as it would be logical) and then the episode ends with Gumball and Darwin eating the rich.

Anyone that was around 5 to 10 when the show first aired would be 13 to 18 when it stopped.
The humor also started to reflect reality more in arguably the worst way possible the further it got into itself. Things as simple as using the increasing use of the internet throughout the show to blasting about SJWs and the presidential election and the glass ceiling is something that a teen would understand way more than a kid.
I can see where he's speaking from even if I might not entirely agree with it.
