Has any superhero been luckier than Spider-Man when it comes to their films? He’s been humiliated in comics, that terrible cartoon and his latest game, but as far as movies go, he’s escaped the dark age of superhero movies pretty much unscathed.

Everyone likes the Sam Raimi trilogy now (even 3), the Andrew Garfield movies were considered mediocre at the time but—like Thor 2 or Iron Man 2–are masterpieces by today’s standards of superhero movies. The animated movies aren’t my thing but they’re well-liked.

Then there’s Tom Holland, who has been probably the luckiest actor at Marvel. He started in Civil War, one of the best movies in the MCU alongside the previous CA film, then he got Homecoming, then he appeared in the Infinity War duology which was well received, and finally he got two post-Endgame films which were well-received, at least in comparison to the other slop Marvel was churning out when they were released.

Even the biggest missteps haven’t been any worse than “okay” or “mediocre”. Every other Marvel hero has had at least one absolute shitshow of a film that killed any excitement for the character. Nobody cares about Thor after “Love and Thunder” or Dr Strange after “Multiverse of Madness”.

Not to mention, the upcoming Spider-Man is the only Marvel product that has anyone excited, and that’s not from a trailer, but because of the behind the scenes shots on location where they literally have a stunt man swinging through the streets for real.

A blessing and a curse. They creatre a lot of misconceptions that end up making their way back into the character's perceptions and other adaptations. The Raimi movies really leaned in on Peter being an awkward nerd, the ASM movies leaned on Oscorp being behind everything, the MCU movies doubled down on him being an awkward nerd, emphasized the high school years, and made him reliant on a mentor.

They both suffered from being over-stuffed, the second way more so than the first, which is on Sony, especially on Arad but as well on Pascal, so the idea that she's was handed the keys to Bond is idiotic.

Arad is more hack than anything else. But worse, he's a talentless hack. At least, a hack with some talent like Kirkman, can come up with entertaining concepts and the occasional amusing and entertaining story arc. Arad is just storytime of pain tier hack.

Hot take: Tom Holland's films are underappreciated. Watched them recently and they surprisingly are solid films. No nostalgia factor like the Toby movies but they're much better than how people usually treat them.

My issue with 3 is it isn't the movie Raimi wanted to make and it shows. The original plan without Venom with Vulture instead sounded way more cohesive with the previous two films.

I thought people hated TASM 1 at some point, especially the suit. TASM 2's suit was an immediate improvement, but the story was still lackluster.

It totally makes sense. The symbiote doesn't actually make Peter cooler, it just makes him act like his idea of a cool guy, and he's a total dork deep down, so why wouldn't his idea of a cool guy be totally cringy? I mean, whose example does he have to follow? Harry, Flash... that's about it.

Until Tom Holland's new suit at the end of No Way Home, it was still the best live action Spider-Man costume. They really nailed the Mark Bagley look in live-action with that one.

>TASM 2's suit was an immediate improvement
It was a copout due to the poor reception of TASM1's costume. They backpedaled hard on it and wound up just making a cheaper looking version of the Raimi suit. Which makes it worse than TASM1 suit because at least they were trying something with that. It's the worst live action Spider-man suit to date.

If it makes you happy, anon, that's great. I have no quarrel with that.
When Columbia was doing their anniversary thing, I had friends who wanted to see the second Tobester movie and I said fine, if we see TAMS1, which everyone was good with except for that one person that ended up going to the movies by himself, on principal.
No one wanted to re-watch any of the Holland movies.

I will admit the Tobey movies made the most money of those repeats and since they are about to re-release just those three, for a few random nights coming up soon, in a few theaters, we'll see. Taylor Swift made more fucking money in one week that the entire Sony Spider-Man re-watch. Fuck, for that matter, some one night only concert films did as well.

The same people also say that the 2000s Fantastic Four movies were bad. Or Afleck Daredevil(director's cut) being bad.
People had terrible taste in movies, and Disney's MCU slop was the perfect mix for them.
If you try to watch the Spider-Man movies as their own story, it doesn't even make sense. It's easily the worst attempt at Spider-Man, because you have to watch 3-5 other movies.
Captain America: Civil War
Avengers: Infinity War
Avengers: Endgame
and maybe Iron Man 1 and Dr Strange 1.
Really takes the fun out of watching the Disney Spider-Man movies, when you have to watch at least 3 other movies to get his full story, and to properly understand IW/EG, lmao.
Garfield Spider-Man movies were a simplier time. I thought they did a great job of juggling all the plots.

When I first watched Spider-Man 2, I felt they made Doc Ock too sympathetic and the connection to Peter in his personal life felt unnecessary. Now that I've read a decent amount of Doctor Octopus stories from the first two decades of Spider-Man, I totally get it.

You can read the majority of the 60s-80s without ever needing to pick up a non-Spider-Man title. It's only Secret Wars, where you had to read something else. And the 60s-80s is where the overwhelming majority of the stories that people think of as "Spider-Man" come from. If you're reading Spider-Man into the 90s, you don't have taste.
>>150375856
I grew up with the Toby Spider-Man movies, and you have to already be a Raimi fan, to enjoy the Peter/MJ "romance" plot or tolerate SM3.
AS/2 were way more consistent, while daring to do the Gwen Dies plot, which is super risky for a superhero story. Even if it's one of the classic Spider-Man moments. That's not what the average movie-goer wants.

I'm the person that said that both TASM were over-stuffed. But you don't have to take my word for it, sweetie - some 90 people reviewed it, all over the planet (it's Spidey, after all), from Canadian newspapers, Indian ones, UK ones, South African ones, Brazilian ones, etc. etc.) - a uniform comment in all of them about TASMII was that it had 'too many villains' or 'too many plot complications,' etc.

Also, Silver Surfer was a BAD movie. And I liked every actor in those movies except for Alba.

>>150376289
Andrew will probably end up with two or more Oscars before he kicks it (or before everyone becomes extinct). Not that he'll win for something like TASM, but trash is far from what those movies were, even the fight scenes, since none were overstuffed like Raimi 3, were coherent and decent.
