Has any superhero been luckier than Spider-Man when it comes to their films? He’s been humiliated in comics, that terrible cartoon and his latest game, but as far as movies go, he’s escaped the dark age of superhero movies pretty much unscathed.
Everyone likes the Sam Raimi trilogy now (even 3), the Andrew Garfield movies were considered mediocre at the time but—like Thor 2 or Iron Man 2–are masterpieces by today’s standards of superhero movies. The animated movies aren’t my thing but they’re well-liked.
Then there’s Tom Holland, who has been probably the luckiest actor at Marvel. He started in Civil War, one of the best movies in the MCU alongside the previous CA film, then he got Homecoming, then he appeared in the Infinity War duology which was well received, and finally he got two post-Endgame films which were well-received, at least in comparison to the other slop Marvel was churning out when they were released.
Even the biggest missteps haven’t been any worse than “okay” or “mediocre”. Every other Marvel hero has had at least one absolute shitshow of a film that killed any excitement for the character. Nobody cares about Thor after “Love and Thunder” or Dr Strange after “Multiverse of Madness”.
Not to mention, the upcoming Spider-Man is the only Marvel product that has anyone excited, and that’s not from a trailer, but because of the behind the scenes shots on location where they literally have a stunt man swinging through the streets for real.
