We know Daria. You should have kept Ted

All of Daria's and Jane's problems would be solved if they had sex with each other.
Anonymous No.150372781 [Report]
Yeah that was the point; the "cool band guy" is obviously a lazy guy with no ambition or drive. It's why Daria loses interest in him.

Well, if they actually made his spinoff show he might have got it together.

Trent is one of my favorite characters, but there's no way he could carry a spinoff unless they radically changed his character. His whole thing is that he's wasting his life away while never letting go of his pipe dream of being a rockstar. Unfortunately he's not particularly motivated or especially talented. A show that accurately portrayed his life would show him sleeping well past noon, waking up, smoking a cigarette, eating a bowl of cereal, then going back to bed, waking up, heading to band practice until like 3 am, drinking, coming home, and passing out. Occasionally he'd play a gig to a mostly empty room or maybe get a new tattoo from some hot artist chick who he occasionally casually bangs.

A spinoff show would try to make his character "more interesting" so suddenly he'd be retconned into being a super talented musical genius who actually cared about stuff. Even if they wanted to make him some sort of Big Lebowski type character who stumbled his way through plots happening around him, it would require him to give a shit enough to leave his bedroom.

Not longterm, but I could see Quinn hooking up with Trent for one summer while she's home from college. Maybe she swallows her pride and gets a job as a waitress at a local bar that Trent's band plays at and they start fucking out of convenience, but it would end as soon as the summer did.
Yeah, I know high school Quinn would never be caught dead working as a waitress, but I figure by college she'd grow up a bit.

The spin-off was meant to be an ensemble show for Mystik Spiral and the pilot fleshed out and gave a bit more depth to the other three members while keeping Trent's core character. The show wouldn't have had the same style of humor as Daria and seemed to lean into the comedy of "failing local band" concept. A show about a loser band who would never make it trying to make it and getting into shenanigans would have been fun.

Do you have the restoration project versions of the episodes? I wish they had given every episode the opening again but they look fine AND they have the original music.

A Mystic Spiral show that makes fun of the Scooby Doo formula would be pretty good though.

On their way to a gig, Jesse's van breaks down and they wander into an old abandoned mansion to use the phone. But it's actually being used by drug dealers that pretend to be ghosts who kidnap them. They escape only to get lost in an abandoned Six Flags where an old groundskeeper pretends to be the ghost of someone that died there in the 70s.

This show had such an uncommon attitude towards men for a TV show. It feels like it was written by a neurotic woman who genuinely loves them a lot and sees the awkward effect that modern life has on them. Men in the show were endreaingly beset with anxiety problems and typically not the agents of change. It's very feel-good in the way that it doesn't like to point the finger at anyone.
