You need to be an exceptionally good writer to pull that off with poise and grace. Again, not saying it can't be done. I'm trying to do that in my own creative works, but making it so an entire episode can stand on its own while also contributing to the throughline narrative is insanely difficult.

Examples where I think they pull it off:

I work with elementary aged kids and I've never heard them talk about Steven Universe, The Owl House, She-ra, etc. It's not as if they don't watch cartoons at all, they like shows like Bluey, Paw Patrol, Spidey and His Amazing Friends...it's not hard to make stuff that appeals to kids.
