Just say you're unable to get immersed in different art styles. Go look up Chris Sanders's personal sketchbooks if you need your hand held to try understanding the guy's vision. A skilled cartoonist can make minimalistic or caricatured designs still come together aesthetically. Chris Sanders does that wonderfully. I do agree that Frankie is overrated tho, I just don't see it
