Superman is currently a weird topic to broach, he's basically become a "pop-culture religious symbol", in that now people are "converting" and treating him literally like superhero Jesus, I mean literally a hopecore messiah, instead of just another superhero, which is both nice and concerning
Anyone ever wonder if the ancients had similar autistic arguments over their heroes like we have today? >Heracles is just dumb power wank, Odysseus is the GOAT.

It was completely different because hero folktales varied from places and they lack copyrights so anyone could make a poem about Heracles that centuries later it's taken as a myth. Superheroes are corporate pets

The ancients would also edit their stories frequently. At least some portion of Zeus rape adventures were older Italian tales with their old gods replaced by Jupiter.

I'm sure they did complete with autistic fights over canon and catty snide shots directed at people they disliked. People bring up Lancelot and Galahad essentially being French wank additions. Look at Indian mythology and there's a lot of one upping of each other. Old gods become the punching bags of new ones and eventually forgotten. Or you get new interpretations that mix up influences like this cultural exchange resulting in Heracles becoming the guardian of the Buddha.
