As a guy whose friend just kept INSISTING he watch it until finally I gave in, tonight, uhh.. it really depends on your tolerance for shitty modern music
I was expecting it to be like what I remember Kpop being. yknow, knockoff Jpop. fun, simple rock n' roll. But no. this is R&B, rap, and irritating boyband-style singing with lots of autotune and 'soul' singing. I despised almost every second of the music, there were literally periods measured in single digit seconds that sounded nice, usually just a jingle or a guy plucking a lute.
If you can get past that, and how cringey they act during pretty much the entire first 20-30 minutes, and how cringey all the fans act in the first act, then... yeah it's actually a good story, that becomes MUCH less annoying later.
The faces still really piss me off 90% of the time. the boys are hideously wrongly-pretty. the girls look okay most of the time, but the cute one has a beaky nose, the main one has bizarre pseudohawk hair, and the tall one really needs to be dressed in flannel. I fucking hate most of their outfits (the epaulets ones were okay). The time they looked the most attractive was with their bandaged faces, all sad and puppy-eyed. The shitty attempts at anime faces made me cringe super hard most of the time. weirdly only the ugly doctor guy looked 'right' doing them.
the real reason my friend had me watch it, I think, is it's an amazing and completely unexpected judeo-christian allegory about sin and how the devil tries to make you feel like you're not worth forgiving, so that you won't bother to try (since if you did, it'd work, and he'd be fucked). And how you can only be cleaned by acknowledging the need to, and not covering it up. Iunno. my ears are kinda still bleeding from the sped-up (i cranked up the speed for those parts) music.
