The Legend of Korra is a great example of this shit. People will swear down that it was intended from season 1 and act like all these moments between the characters were "queer coded". The Legend of Korra feels like ground zero for modern media problems considering how much it subverted expectations before TLJ as well as being unplanned. That and the creators took feedback from the audience on tumblr which is why we got so many of the problems we did around shipping/romance.

That romance was simply not planned but people in fandoms on tumblr who write fanfiction constantly push hard their ships and ideas and have worse literacy than anyone on the right. Seriously, lefties will moan that righties are evil for liking Homelander, Punisher, Judge Dredd or someone because "media literacy" and "satire" but meanwhile they project all friendships as having underlying "queerness" amongst other things. As far as with lesbians, the only example I can think of would be Sherry and Koko in Gash/Zatch Bell, where they are incredibly close in the original series and Sherry sacrifices everything in her life to save her, but in the new sequel manga Sherry married a literally-who man who cheats on her.

Thankfully the sequel is pretty decent so far but that subplot is definitely odd
