Covid 19 did a lot to inflate the value streaming services had. Like me, I'm sure a lot of people ignore new cartoons so they can look at older animation they happen to be hosting on their platforms. They're dialing back as a natural response to diminishing returns.
After Kpop Demon Hunters, I'm sure these companies will regain a little faith in these types of projects. I'm all for it if it means killing the quantity over quality business model.

This downturn may be equal parts the quality of content and the business strategy of streamers. There is little reason to make content in-house if the output is both bad, and the streamer has no idea how to commercialize the IP outside of streaming.

No need to watch the video, lol- it's an ad for a Netflix cartoon airing on Nick. Seems like TV networks are moving away from a "watch a few times every week" model and more towards an event-based "binge" model. Air all the episodes of a specific show for a week and then move on to the next one. Done right (read: if children's marketing isn't chugging cough syrup), it could be a brilliant way to repackage old cartoons as new ones.

Here is my view:
All of these boomer execs are trying to wait for AI to become almost fully self-functioning to make animation again thinking they can hire about 10 people to do everything else then just plug it into AI with the execs so they pay pennies and get more for themselves. They do not want to hold the bag making millions of dollars shows then AI gets to this stage
Thing is, as you know, AI will not get to this stage, and even if it did people will destroy whatever media does it first. So we are in this period of nothing happening

I avoid all western adaptations on principle these days because I know that if I liked whatever the original was then I'll probably hate the adaptation since it'll be nothing like the original and will just be a way for some talentless nepobaby to get their shitty script off the ground.

Okay, but the death of cable is also why networks don't make cartoons.
There's little to no money to be made off of ads on kid's content on YouTube these days, especially with recent changes to restricted/kids mode. The old network system allowed advertisers to target specific networks with their ads where they knew they had a good chance of reaching their target audience, no such thing exists on YouTube unless they actively reach out to creators to get access to their channel demographics.
Because of this, there's really very little point in making cartoons for kids, if you just want to make money off of selling shit to dumb kids, it makes more sense to pay some retarded tiktok influencer to hock your shit so their audience of dumb children will bug mommy and daddy to buy it for them.

Preserve your shows to watch over and over.

Nothing worth watching nowadays unless another pandemic forces everyone back inside.
