>Middle class nearly extinct
>Modern animation is almost exclusively promotions for toy lines like back in the '80s
>Nobody has disposable income for toys

It's like asking why nobody is manufacturing cars when we voted to put landmines in our highways.

Covid 19 did a lot to inflate the value streaming services had. Like me, I'm sure a lot of people ignore new cartoons so they can look at older animation they happen to be hosting on their platforms. They're dialing back as a natural response to diminishing returns.
After Kpop Demon Hunters, I'm sure these companies will regain a little faith in these types of projects. I'm all for it if it means killing the quantity over quality business model.

>pandemic hits and everyone is inside and need all sorts of entertainment
>money and demand floods in so stuff is being made as fast possible
>pandemic passes and demand goes away
>all excessive hiring leads to excessive layoffs and less stuff being made
It's supply and demand. That's Business 101. Companies knew this was going to happen as well as laying off people would look good to investors so they continue winning while everyone else gets screwed over. That's Business 102.

One thing I wonder is if audiences are experiencing cartoons in tandem with their premiere, or if they're discovering shows that already had a full run. Netflix shows are being marketed as new programs: can kids and normalfags distinguish a newly-aired show from a rerun of something they've never seen before?

Not watching that shit, but I can agree since Disney shows now keeps doing bomb format premieres. Not not a week of premieres, no. I mean back-to-back premieres. They've been doing this shit since Hamster and Gretel premiered in 2022.

People don't want cartoons anymore, they want to listen to political commentary. They want all of the off-the-wall drama and action and high-strung emotions of fiction, but it has to be loosely based on real life because pure fiction is for children and people are insecure nowadays.

Is there data for acquired shows, both domestic and foreign?
This downturn may be equal parts the quality of content and the business strategy of streamers. There is little reason to make content in-house if the output is both bad, and the streamer has no idea how to commercialize the IP outside of streaming.

No need to watch the video, lol- it's an ad for a Netflix cartoon airing on Nick. Seems like TV networks are moving away from a "watch a few times every week" model and more towards an event-based "binge" model. Air all the episodes of a specific show for a week and then move on to the next one. Done right (read: if children's marketing isn't chugging cough syrup), it could be a brilliant way to repackage old cartoons as new ones.

Unfortunately instead of learning that people have an interest in new and original IPs (which is partially what contributed to Kpop Demon Hunter's success), I think networks are going to try to do discount clones of Kpop Demon Hunter specifically.

yeah. It's crazy listening to late night broadcasts from the BBC on current events when compared to how the US reports on the same events. It really shows how fucking biased and emotionally manipulative everything in the US is and how everything needs to be accompanied with commentary so viewers are essentially told how to interpret events and what to think about them.

Journalistic integrity in the US is fucking dead.

Here is my view:
All of these boomer execs are trying to wait for AI to become almost fully self-functioning to make animation again thinking they can hire about 10 people to do everything else then just plug it into AI with the execs so they pay pennies and get more for themselves. They do not want to hold the bag making millions of dollars shows then AI gets to this stage
Thing is, as you know, AI will not get to this stage, and even if it did people will destroy whatever media does it first. So we are in this period of nothing happening

You're talking about people over the age of 20-25, and what you're describing is the act of "growing out of cartoons". It has happened to previous generations, but when all the manchildren finally grow out of their hobbies, it's a shocker for everyone.
Cartoons in general shouldn't target people over 20 anyhow. And I'm not saying that watching this post-reality political drama shit is a better choice than any cartoon. It's a shame people fall for it, but then your average person is as stupid as a bag of rocks.

They have their own biases in regards to what they choose to report on for sure, but that wasn't my point. I'm saying that it's fucking weird listening to the BBC report on a topic that you're used to hearing reported on in the US because the delivery is so fucking dry and straight foward. There's less sensationalism and posturing and chest beating. It's just...."yesterday this happened at this time at this place. There were 2 fatalities. Officials are investigating potential connections to <whatever>". Done. Moving on to the next thing. They tell you what happened with a very dry tone instead of trying to get you emotionally invested in the "story".

I mean, they aren't gonna watch the devil may cry, castlevania or tomb raider cartoons, because neither of them have an aesthetic appeal to help them stand out on their own, without that of their respective source materials.
Neither would they watch capeshit that attempts to be the next meta commentary on the capeshit pantheon so far.
Frankly, I'd be surprised if they cared about stuff like k-pop demon hunters. As far as anyone under 18 is concerned, k-pop is that shit that their crusty aunt is still into.
We're at the point where pop-culture can no longer remain self-referential, the same way millennials didn't really know who John Wayne or Robert Redford are and zoomers don't have any frame of reference as to what Woodstock is.

Your presumption is based on trashy cable tabloid channels like Fox News or CNN that have a lot of leeway . You hear about them the most because they are so absolutely shit and biased people talk about them. That is not meant to compare to a national broadcaster
You need to compare to Associated Press or PBS or Reuters as that is closer to what your expectations for journalism are
And let’s not pretend Europe does not have fully biased shit journalist rags. I’m not going to pretend The Sun is the trashiest shir out there. Maybe I should us that for the basis of European journalism vs the AP?

They're not going to watch them because they suck, and are nothing like their source materials.
I avoid all western adaptations on principle these days because I know that if I liked whatever the original was then I'll probably hate the adaptation since it'll be nothing like the original and will just be a way for some talentless nepobaby to get their shitty script off the ground.
A good example being that fucking godawful Y: The Last Man show that everyone immediately forgot because it was so fucking awful.

I don't know what you're trying to say with this image Anon, it shows that kids are watching YouTube and streaming instead of TV while boomers continue to watch TV. Everyone knows that, it doesn't really say anything about the state of cartoons.
Anonymous No.150450260 [Report]
>>150449825
Okay, but the death of cable is also why networks don't make cartoons.
There's little to no money to be made off of ads on kid's content on YouTube these days, especially with recent changes to restricted/kids mode. The old network system allowed advertisers to target specific networks with their ads where they knew they had a good chance of reaching their target audience, no such thing exists on YouTube unless they actively reach out to creators to get access to their channel demographics.
Because of this, there's really very little point in making cartoons for kids, if you just want to make money off of selling shit to dumb kids, it makes more sense to pay some retarded tiktok influencer to hock your shit so their audience of dumb children will bug mommy and daddy to buy it for them.
