It just wasnt very good. Aggressively mediocre. Story felt very rushed. Shitty whedon quips. Also just way too "kid friendly". It had no edge to it. Kids can handle alot of shit, and eat up more mature stories. I hate when shit is watered down and baby proofed because they think kids are stupid and wont understand things or might get scared.

Im kind of glad it wont get a sequel, because it would just be more of the same shit.

The problem I had with it was the pacing. It was really feeling like it was gearing up for the perfect cliffhanger but they botched in a plot resolution at the last minute.

Semi-related, I just watched Ultraman: Rising, and while I'd say it had pretty much everything I felt I wanted to get from TFO on a higher amount, jesus christ the sequel bait there kinda ruined it a little bit too, if ILM ever makes another animated movie I hope to god they actually commit to making it a god damn one-off for once, watching these long after they came out knowing they'll never get a continuation just sucks.

nta but I think it suffer from being a tonal mess between kid friendly and not kid friendly with everything it was doing. Look at B127/Bumblebee, he acts like this goofy kid screaming about knife hands while violently murdering fellow bots. His introduction is about himself wanting to be called "Badassatron" and introducing friends he made from spare parts as a plot point that sets off the main adventure.

It's very clear they were trying to appease both types but in the end likely turn off both.

Why the FUCK was Bumblebee in the main group but not Ironhide? Where the fuck WAS Ironhide, isn't he canonically Optimus' oldest friend? That's the real problem with One, it pretended to tell a heartfelt story but in reality it was a paint-by-numbers box-checking slopfest elevated by some great VA performances. Why was Elita One even there? No, we all know why she was there, because there needed to be some shitty female castmember to pump up dogshit diversity points. But she shouldn't have been there, the story would have been more meaningful if she wasn't there.

Just total slop, under the guise of a "good" movie.

You have the answer with why as you understand why Elita was there. Ironhide is a red bot, they already have a red bot. Bee is the second biggest know Autobot in the series. That's just how all this works. Also it's a different universe than G1 so Ironhide and OP could just be mining bots that knew it each other and little else.

Bumblebee was the comic relief and D-16 already had the "best friend" role.

If Ironhide ended up with the main group, he would have unquestionably ended up as a red shirt who'd die early on after first reaching the surface.

I think it should've been Jetfire instead of Bee. It'd give us more variation in alt-modes, make Orion and D terror when they first meet him more justified (because Jetfire is huge remember), and could lead to some character scenes between him and Starscream, and that's just some of it.
