The idea of mind torture is so uniquely horrifying, I'm happy it seemingly isn't real outside of sleep deprivation and stuff

Play Look Outside, it has a good take on mind horror in one of the endings.

Mk Ultra was more about weird poisoning shit and getting blackmail material. The idea that it was about making Manchurian candidates is overblown. They did do something like that at Edgewood, but it was less about making hypnosis super soldiers and more about brain breaking enemy troops with something like LSD so they'd just want to be hippies

The complete ritual ending where instead of declining, you accept the entity's offer to impart upon you the scope of it since the thing you are currently seeing isnt its full form. This turns out to be a bad idea as its fucking holy shit huge so it accidentally hyper overloads MC's mind leading to super bad times.

On the flip side, the friendly decline version leads to one of the nicest endings ever in an eldritch horror story while still keeping the eldritch vibe
