Here's a hastily finished better look at the helmet as well.
Tony is barely 5 feet tall in this version. The Iron Man armor is 7 feet.
As to why he's such a manlet, it's because he's a 16 year old who suffers from congenital defects that've rendered most of his organs weak, which has stunted his growth.

It’s because nobody understands the whole “family” aspect of the fantastic four anymore. They just think they’re supposed to be a group of cool super-friends, and the only reason they’re called a “family” is because Reed and Sue have kids. So they just ignore everything else about the team, make Reed look vaguely “dad-ish” (hence all the shitty attempts to give him unkempt facial hair), and try to make them look like a ragtag group of diverse teenagers that grew up a little bit because that’s the only fucking type of team these people care about.

I've read very little fantastic four, but I do get the feeling that the fanon versions of them as shown through the lenses of these redesigns is just a group of dorks who hangs out in their tower waiting for someone or something more interesting to drop by. And that's just lame. But there's little room for the space age adventurer archetype in modern fiction.

It's the same kind of arrogance that causes some people to think they can be competent at any skill with just a cursory understanding compared to people who have spent years practicing. Add in the stigma that superheroes have, and you have the formula for the mindset a lot of artists have thinking they can improve long lasting characters.

Ironically it's not too far off from the mindset of British Invasion writers when handling superheroes. The only difference is those writers actually bothered to research the characters while throwing in elements from classic works. I suppose just doing it for fun can also add a level of detachment that can prevent handling the character in earnest when you don't have an obligation to care.

I'd say there are two camps to people inclined to shitty redesigns, the type of people you're talking about and the people whose earnest interest outstrips their design skills. Though personally I blame Project Rooftop for a lot of the issues with redesigns, for years they were THE big name on tumblr for superhero redesigns and the people running it had a clear bias for drab realism that ultimately morphed into "practicool."

DC and Marvel both really needed some sort of internal rule that people who had nothing at all to do with creating a character shouldn't be allowed to just randomly make changes to their ethnicity decades later. That these things keep getting used to try and force changes to the way characters have looked for decades makes it even worse.

We basically need an industry-wide reset to factory settings with all these retcons thrown out.

Nothing of any real value would be lost, and new writers would be unable to repeat the same mistakes.

I still remember when this artist got fucking blasted on twitter for their take on Scarlet Witch, mainly making them look raggedy, sharp teeth, and unkempt hair.

They're all pretty abysmal, but I think Doom's the worst one here. Thing's a close second, but what makes Doom worse is how I can actually see the logic behind it.

It wants to play up the corrupt Euro dictator angle, while completely forgetting that Doom's strength is his simplicity. Simple design, simple motivations, a powerset with a little bit of everything. He's supposed to feel like something a child could come up as with as a big bad villain, and therefore makes him easy to understand. Tackling Doom with adult sensibilities, or worse a fanboy, just strips away his appeal.

Neat general design, terrible Giganta redesign. So much of Giganta's design rests on her head. You can change her body type and costume all you want, but her head needs to convey "Giant Imposing Redhead" to get through that's the character.
