Genndy discusses about the failure of Fixed
>He did, however, admit to having a “crisis of confidence” after the muted response to his R-rated comedy “Fixed,” which debuted on Netflix earlier this year. He said that the negative response to the trailer and the fact that the movie “didn’t land the way I thought it was going to land” caused him to step back and assess the situation. “It gave me a little pause like, Oh, like, my instincts were a little off,” Tartakovsky shared. “Everything that I’ve done, it’s been positive, right across the board and this one was more controversial.”
>As such, in the lead-up to this new season of “Primal,” Tartakovsky has been fretting. “It’s like, are people going to question ‘Primal?’ No, I don’t think so. It’s true to the story. This is a very natural continuation of what’s been happening.”

He is not, he even admits the season 2 ending was a mistake
>He started reading online comments following the Season 2 finale, all expressing sadness at the loss of Spear and the (supposed) end of the narrative. “I started to think about it, like, What did I do? I spent 20 episodes trying to get people to love these characters, just like with any show, and then I kill him. Maybe it was too early, because, for me, it’s an eternity, in a way, making it, but for you and everyone watching it, it’s like this,” Tartakovsky said.” I thought, Well, I make a mistake? Let me think about it. And then all of a sudden, this thing pops up – wait, maybe there’s a way around it. It’s a fantastical idea and it’s totally pulpy, which I loved about it.”

Favorite part of Fixed was the very begining with the crazy humping scene transitioning to Bull and Honey having a chill conversation. That's the only time the tone worked for me.

Genndy has the easiest job in the world. He should know what people want from him. What they EXPECT from him. He's the "action" guy. Just make things badass like Samurai Jack, Clone Wars, and early Primal and everyone is happy. But he keeps tripping up, dabbling in romance, or dorky blundering characters, or making his own Seth Rogan-esque stoner comedy when even Seth Rogan isn't well received when he does it. Genndy, I'm begging you... SORT YOUR SHIT OUT.

Samurai Jack Season 5: went to shit after episode 3 because it lacked focus and a second draft. Needed a game to retcon the ending.
Unicorn: Warriors Eternal: lacked focus and a second draft. Ended on a cliffhanger like a second season was guaranteed in writing by the CEO himself.
Fixed: 'Nuff said.
Primal: started off good, but then they strayed away from the simple action formula.

Genndy found immediate success with his very first TV show at a relatively young age, one that helped usher in Cartoon Network as a haven for fresh original cartoons no less. That'd make anyone feel like they're unstoppable, which he kind of was minus that brief period in the late 2000s when he and his buddies couldn't find much work. That early success allowed him to pursue more experimental and action-oriented genres for a while, so with Fixed being his first overt comedy in about a decade, it makes sense for him to be a little rusty but also surprised to learn that not every one of his ideas is "perfect and needs no refining."

Genndy is by no means a nepobaby, but he needed a good wakeup call.

I hate to use this phrase and I think you're gonna stop reading once you hit the end of this sentence but this might just be a case of you lacking media literacy. People getting hyped for Punished Jack didn't remember that characters don't grow the depression beard in stories unless they're going to shave it of and return to form at some point.

Also Ashi being a romance was telegraphed the second that butterfly showed up in the first episode. You don't single out a female character as not as bad as the other killers unless you intend to spare her, and you don't spare her unless she's going to be relevant, which is typically as a love interest.

And that's the real problem with Samurai Jack season 5. It's basic and by the numbers. If you watch even a handful of stories of its genre you can predict everything the season does in the first fifteen minutes.

>People getting hyped for Punished Jack didn't remember that characters don't grow the depression beard in stories unless they're going to shave it of and return to form at some point.
I can accept Jack shaving off the beard and cleaning up at some point. But the method of getting him out of his funk.
>You don't single out a female character as not as bad as the other killers unless you intend to spare her
Mostly true but it doesn't have to be. If you want to hammer home tragedy of conflict, you can show a flicker of humanity and then take that character away. It's harsher than general audiences are used to though.
>and you don't spare her unless she's going to be relevant, which is typically as a love interest.
That is how things tend to be done, but that is unnecessarily cliche. You don't HAVE to spare every woman with a flicker of emotion. You don't HAVE to pair her with the MC. And it's really, REALLY disappointing to see Genndy, for all his "experimentation" with other shows didn't even think to take a trope and turn it on its head instead of just grasping at every convention every chance he got.

>And that's the real problem with Samurai Jack season 5. It's basic and by the numbers

There's been a generational brain drain ever since Disney unilaterally decided to move to 3d. The techniques and skills necessary for good animation are long lost, never being passed on to the next generation. Places like Japan and France still educate up-and-coming artists in how to properly do 2d, so they can still put out good stuff. But America never will again, they can't catch up. Execs don't trust 2d so they won't fund it or its education, and the few oldheads like Gennedy are aging and losing their touch. It's over.

Everyone's gay these days. The browner your skin, the gayer you act while pretending you're an alpha male. An alpha cocksucker I say.

>I think he is so used to being praised Fixed might have been the first time he got more hate than love.
Fortunately for his sake, no one watched Unicorn Warriors Eternal.
Because hooboy, people would have been calling him a hack if the general public knew it existed. The pacing, the conflict in tone with the serious story and the "Tezuka-Fletcher inspired artstyle", and the repetitive dialogue.

I actually really liked what Unicorn tried to do, it was just badly executed. Nobody talks about it because it's just very mediocre and boring.

In what universe would any sane human being expect a movie about farting dog buttholes to turn out as anything other than an embarrassing failure?

I mean it didn't need to be made. It's entirely forgettable.

Why are you so hostile like I told your mother she deserved to get raped or something

I kinda figured after the end of season 2 a 3rd season would pull a bit from the movie Drive Angry
>spear in the afterlife at peace, possibly with his dead family
>have Fang appear, having died
>their kids have been taken, enslaved, etc
>Spear and Fang escape the afterlife to save their children
>que angles, demons, gods, and other entities joining the hunt
