It's not that it was aimed at white boys and men. That was never explicitly the plan or the strategy. Rather, all the values and beliefs expressed through that art was stuff that is almost universally valued by first world, advanced cultures around the planet. Hard work, heroism, bravery, self-sacrifice, friendship, honesty, loyalty, art, music, imagination, etc etc etc. These are things that resonate with people who grew up benefiting from modern civilization.
Then identitarian politics became trendy and vile subhumans began to push the idea that morals, values, and actions did not matter. Only identity mattered and in order for identity to flourish, all fiction needed to first denigrate, devalue, and disparage what they deemed to be the dominant identity: white males. Who were not explicitly pandered to as much as it was that the most popular things amongst little boys just also happened to be financially successful. Star Wars became a multi-billion dollar IP off action figures and video games, for instance. Not because it was constantly glorifying the white male identity of characters, but because it had robots and space ships and laser swords and then sold them as toys that little boys and girls liked.
What they wanted was the toyetic success of those properties without the moral appeal and moderately competent creativity that went in to them. They wanted to preach while spitting on the acceptable targets of their cancerous ideology, and they want to be paid billions for it. Over a decade later and they still don't understand what went wrong or why and they still believe their cancerous ideology to be true and right and valid, even though it is none of those things.
