Could Batman solve her unsolved crimes and bring Sam to justice?

>only sources her victims from urban areas
>acts quickly and irregularly with large gaps between kidnappings
>actual murders and body disposal are carried out in undeveloped areas
>lives in a small, insular rural town where any newcomer would be immediately noticed
Batman would be legit hard pressed to discover her crimes and any investigation would probably take years.

Literally the only reason she hasn't gotten caught by the regular police is because this shit takes place in the late 80's to early 90's, before the advent of DNA profiling. If you want to bring the Batman (I'm assuming he's an actual bat) into play here, then he would have pinned Sam the moment she posted the message to the duck's sister on that missing persons message board and her big fat brown asexual ass would have spent the rest of her short life on death row.

Probably getting passed around to other inmates by a bulldyke polar bear named "Fisty."

To add to what this anon said:
>bodies don't get found so her victims are just missing people, which happens in cities every day
>it's not even known or suspected a serial killer is responsible, the murders don't even exist as far as anyone else knows
Prior to Nigel's actions making her a suspect in Volume 1, Sam was basically untouchable. After that, the plot kinda relies on local law enforcement being very dumb and lazy.

Yes. Like almost immediately. Sam only got away with it for so long because she avoided killing anyone close to her home base and the cops in her home town are comically inept.

The Nigel incident should have realistically gotten her caught and if anyone with more than two brain cells would have looked further into her to realize she's sketchy as shit. But for some reason the cops in her home town never bothered to call in the FBI and were more than happy to buy her obvious bullshit story and scapegoat Nigel for everything.

It took Nigel a month to discover she was a serial killer and he's a psychotic college dropout

Sam isn't a criminal mastermind. She's just a meticulous autist who relies on the stupidity of others to not look into her sketchy ass behavior. The minute you do notice Sam her entire cover crumbles

There are so many ways Batman can catch her it's almost comical.

I agree with that, but nobody even had any reason to be looking into her before then. Nigel was only following her because he was a creepy stalker, not because he suspected her of anything.

Yeah, that's kind of the point. One random fucking dumbass decides to follow her out of town one day, completely uncovers her entire schtick, and Sam had no fucking clue. And then even when she did finally find out, she did absolutely fuck-all about him until he fucking clowned on her ass so hard that only the monstrous, borderline criminal retardation of the local police could save her.

Now imagine that an actual detective with actual skills decides to look into some of these missing persons cases.

The point is she was easily discovered by a kid thinking with his dick and didn't even notice until it was too late which shows she's not really being that careful in covering her tracks. Again relying on everyone in her surroundings being stupid and trusting her.

If we assume Batman is there to investigate a murder before the Nigel incident i don't think it would take him long to peg Sam as a suspect. Might take a few days or weeks and looking around the town and city but Batman would have the resources to do that amd it wouldn't takeong to find the dozens of bodies Sam left in that forrest

If he's there after the Nigel incident Sam would be the first person he'd investigate.

>Now imagine that an actual detective with actual skills decides to look into some of these missing persons cases.
Presuming this is pre-Nigel, what would they find though? It was the '80s so there wasn't a lot of CCTV. A detective would find as much as the city police did about Monica's brother: last known sighting and that's about it. And that's before you consider the vast majority of missing people in the city won't be Sam's victims. She's taking what, one person every six months or so? The likelihood any given disappearance being investigated is her doing is very small.

It's also surprising how many times a Serial Killer gets caught because they were convinced to let a victim go. Serial Killers can be smart and get away with it thanks to their own efforts but part of it is taking advantage of the incompetence of law enforcement

The problem with most of these arguments are that they assume Batman already knows that people are being kidnapped. The question shouldn't be "Can Batman solve the case?" because anyone can solve the case when they already know how she operates, the question should be "how would Batman begin to suspect a serial kidnapper in the first place?"

Why? Break this down to me: why do you want something so self contained and wrap up, whored out? Are you a young kid? Have you not witnessed the 50 year mountain of hubris that just ruins everything? A classic only stays a classic if left alone. And this shit isn't even -that- good meaning that when this sequel goes sideways(and it will) this will be just added to the pile of forced IPs that never went anywhere because no one knows how to just enjoy a good self contain media and move on to something new.

>What murders?
Right. The main issue with anyone catching Sam is that if there are no bodies found, there are no murders. You're reliant on the luck of catching her in the act of abducting someone like Nigel did. And then the authorities know at the very least there's a bear who kidnapped someone and you have her description and probably also that of her vehicle because she engineers things so she can shove them in there straight away. It's a case of:
>Sam fucks up, she's done almost immediately
>Sam doesn't fuck up, she can continue to operate with impunity
That's really the core of the first volume of the comic: Sam got complacent in her system she'd spent 20 years refining (she thought) to perfection but failed to notice Nigel spying on her and it fucked everything up. I don't think it's accidental that in Volume 2 she's shown abducting a guy in a parking garage rather than out in the open any more.

Being a Serial Killer in the days of constant surveillance is a big risk and you're likely to get caught after the first or second body because novice Serial Killers never seem to know what they're doing at first. To them, why bother trying to keep a level head in between murders when you know you're just going to get caught later, you probably won't even last long. Why not just go out and kill as many people as possible before either the Police get you or you get yourself
Mass Shootings a trend and an endgoal for groomers online and when the trend dies I imagine most people will go back to serial killing
I know Mass Shooters are a different kind of beast but this is my assumption

I kind of clocked the first series the second Nigel was mentioned as being a college dropout. In an idyllic town, you create a singular character that does nothing, has no job, and just lost his purpose in life. It was pretty obviously him. I still liked the story and feel it was done well.

That being said, with my meta-knowledge as it is, I'm thinking Sam tries to convince qt duck girl to kill, as a mentor to her, and when duck girl refuses Sam has to kill her.

I mean, its not like any of the characters even aknowledge their different appearances or anything. They also behave exactly like humans instead of a bojack-esque world where the animals behave like humans but still have some animal personality. DNA profiling was only developed in 1984 and was first used in an active criminal investigation in 1988. The first comic series takes place in 1986.

By the time DNA testing would become widely and cheaply available the case would have been several years old and considered long solved, the murders stopped when Nigel got popped. They had no reason to look forther into the case

A lot of Sam's success as a serial killer relies heavily on her local police department's incompetence and borderline criminal ignorance and to be fair they're not really exaggerating. Cops really are that dumb.

How does she keep everything in neat little chunks? Organs aren't really glued in place, they're mostly held where they are by membranes and muscles. Like, your intestines are basically just sitting in your gut with the only real sturdy connection points being your stomach and your butthole, and they're kept in place by the same force of tension that lets them push digested matter around. That's why you shit yourself when you die, there's no more coil in the spring and the poo sludge just runs through. Cutting someone into neat little bricks like that would cause a lot of organ meat spillage.

Nah, won't work. Most of the these people end up killing one person and get caught immediately because cellphones ruined everything for them. You get all the places the victim was at, where the killer was running around(For some reason they carry around their personal phone), think that sending incriminating messages to the trash can is permanently deleted, get seen on two dozen cctvs cameras running around, and think they got some very believable story to tell police when they get caught but sperg out and end up spilling the beans.

Hunting dogs just fit well for detectives because following trails and tracking down their prey is what they were bred for, but unlike wild animals they're doing it for a higher purpose. In the case of dogs it's serving man, in the case of detectives it's serving justice. Woodbrook's own police chief in this comic appears to be a fat Beagle, which is fitting because while they can hunt small animals, they're not built for taking on anything big.

Serial killers all have a compulsive need to kill for different reasons. Sam kills to give herself relief and quite the schizo noise in her head. Nigel killed for attention. He wanted people to find his work. They are incompatible as serial killers and Nigel doesn't understand this like Sam does. Plus he was sloppy as shit. It was only a a matter of time before he got caught especially because he refused to stop and eventually the local pd would have had to call in the FBI to help the case. And then Sam's graveyard would inevitably discovered and its game over for her.

Sam didn't want any more murder in Woodbrook. She even tells Nigel she doesn't give a fuck if he likes killing people and making a spectacle of it, she just didn't want him doing it THERE. Her killing/disappearing him after his (two?) recent murders would have just brought more heat on the town and potentially (and likely) on her which is the exact thing she wanted to avoid. There would be no way to link her serial killer victims since they're all strangers that live far away. She's put every single victim in paint cans from her hardware store, and as serial killers tend to be extremely autistic about their habits, it's very likely she'll continue to do so even after the Nigel incident. And even if she doesn't, exsanguinating her victims before cubing them and burying their individual parts is a very specific MO. Paint cans newer than the ones that Nigel dug up would be a dead giveaway, and Sam would be the first place the feds would look.

I'd also like to not that we see in the comic that the forest where she does her deeds is slowly being consumed by industry, so it's possible somebody breaks ground out there and comes across one of her treasure troves.

But again don't assume you are one of them but it is a type and i mean the sicophants

Yeah the irony is most of the "good" ones that can't be caught usually is because either two things. Like dahmer he was only murdering gay guys and minorities so no one cared, either their families disowned them or the cops didn't care. If anything I stopped being as interested in it once I realize "dear god cops are retarded" Half the time they catch them because they get super bold and just fess up or try to make a name for themselves or it gets so big the FBI has to get involved.

The other good type are the scarier ones and the actual dangerous ones, aka the ones that are genuinely random and methodical. Most of the famous ones are the idiot spergs, but they don't talk about ones that get old because it's terrifying knowing this person was never caught or are part of organized crime or had to give themself up to be found.

I remember one where for years he just would drive on the freeway about 50-60 miles randomly find someone grab em kill em. drive toss em at random no where near where they lived. They could never find him no signs just did it for the love of the game, and he fessed up in his like 60-70s because he felt bad for the cops. Most of the famous ones are genuinely just the loser kids, spergs outcast why most of the ones that get movies and shows like ed gein on netflix now, is because they are sex pest and over the top dramatic old queens lol

He didn't "figure it out" though, he was stalking her for completely unrelated reasons and just so happened to stumble into her killings. Batman would have no reason to stalk some random middle-aged woman.

Bruce could tell she's acting suspiciously. Especially to him a stranger in town. He'd investigate everyone he could obviously but she'd either panic & slip up or he'd just look into the fact she routinely heads into the city for seemingly no reason. It's not hard. Again as others have said, the cops are just oblivious.

>The other good type are the scarier ones and the actual dangerous ones, aka the ones that are genuinely random and methodical.

The scariest ones are the one's who can stop any time they want for a prolonged period of time because it's not an exact impulse, just something they like doing
BTK killer could have died a free man had he not gotten so bored and Bundy could have kept it going a little while longer had he not made a break for it during his initial trial. People keep talking about how smart Ed Kemper was but the dude was also a loser who sperged out and killed his Mom and her friend in her own home he was staying at, he had to turn himself in because he knew he was too noticeable to ever really hide away. Israel Keyes understood the "Don't shit where you eat" idea but he eventually fucked that up by changing his M.O and trying to hold a dead woman ransom

Yeah kind of what I was getting at but was hitting the word limit, but randomness and not being dramatic autist basically. They don't fit any bill like FBI shows and true crime always say "They fit profiles" but their are a lot of criminals who don't. I remember watching a documentary on basically police fuck ups, and the cops thought it was this loner guy because he lived with his mom and was a bit of a loser with anger issues. Turnt out to be some nice family man who literally turnt himself in because they were turning the poor guy into a pariah and he didn't do it.

Yeah a lot of the "most well known" ones as I said are really just spergs who tend to have no impulse control. They kill because they can't help themselves, or something makes them super angry or desperate. Then as said they are a lot of times sex pests, so then they get obsessed with the validation and notoriety and try different things or to "top" themselves, so boom, easier to catch. Plus it's easy to catch a person who basically is flaky and needy, as they move very linearly. I mean idk about bundy wasn't the first trial kind of because the girl escape or am I confused

Empathy would also be able to tell that she's only mimicing human feelings. Physical Instrument and Perception would be able to tell you that Sam is significantly stronger than many of the other inhabitants in town. Espirit-de-Corps would notice that the town's police are terrible, Drama and Conceptualization would be able to tell that the theatrical killings were a completely different MO from the paint bucket ones, with Encyclopedia able to contribute all the different uses for paint. Shivers and Inland Empire would be able to give spookier hints, the former more about the murders originating in "The City" while the latter going more into the dream quest with the wild bear / snakes in the brain imagery.

I don't remember the specifics, just that people were telling Bundy to sit tight and be calm because they figured he could skate by the charges
Speaking of Bundy, dude was a massive liar. People still think it was pornography that made him kill all those women and not because he just hated them because his ex scorned him and his Sister was actually his mother. His last interview before being executed was with a guy who openly denounced porn, I think Bundy was trying to get a few more extra days to stall execution

You need to realize something about the 1970s gay scene they operated in. Everyone was doing illegal shit. The bars were lined with everything from coke to fent, knowing a gay bar was even a gay bar was often on a need-to-know/word-of-mouth basis because everyone knew that if the cops walked in the whole place would get shut the hell down.
That's why Dahmer and Gacy got away with it so long. The community was extremely underground and everyone was high as hell so it was very easy for someone to slip a guy outta there unnoticed and then people would be afraid to report because the last known sighting was "that party at phil's where everyone was high on PCP while we had a massive orgy."

A few women had escaped iirc. Notably the one who he tried to trick with a shitty police costume. He was caught for speeding in a stolen vehicle and then they saw his trunk.
Bundy was slick up until probably his most infamous moment, when he escaped and started up again. You read the story regarding the manhunts and you realize his bag of tricks starts running out as he finds himself much more compulsive.
