Adam and lute would be the heroes in any other story.
Lilith left Adam for Lucifer and then Lucifer give the apple to eve getting him and eve kicked out of Eden and made it possible for humans to sin.
He was the first human soul in heaven and even though its implied there isn't real requirements to get to heaven he still wasn't bad enough to go to hell when he died.
He then leads an army against sinners, even though we see the main cast being actually decent people, they are the exception to the rule, everyone else in hell are the worst that mankind have to offer.
While Charlie motivation to give redemption to sinners is admirable she has defended killers, rapists, pedophiles and human traffickers and will have to make them earn redemption and let's say that they earn it, imagine their victims in heaven seeing them and charlie and other angels say "oh he earned redemption"
Then lute sees Adam die in front of her and not only that, she sees the people she fights for forgive the people responsible for Adam's death and expect her to shake their hands like nothing happen.

Both lute and adam are punished for being right, you can talk about how Adam is sexist and that lute is sadistic but neither of them were bad enough to deserve to go to hell from the beginning.

I have some problems with the "what if their victims see them" thing you fixate on, but yes, Adam and Lute have an interesting characterization in that they do morally questionable things and believe they're doing the right thing. As it is right now, they're poised for more interesting character growth than Charlie, whose story so far is about fumbling into being right all along. I think Adam and Lute could even push Charlie in an interesting direction if she ever finds herself having to help these people she has such serious and personal beef with, challenging her own beliefs. She's already been proven right about the possibility of redemption, so the only thing left to really challenge her is if she really believes anyone can or should be redeemed.

For one, it's not how salvation works in the mythology this show purportedly borrows from, albeit loosely. The only sin that is explicitly unforgiveable is blaspheming the holy spirit, but even believing in redemption means you are not guilty of this. Outside of that, salvation is personal covenant between a person and a higher power. Third parties don't factor, even if you've wronged them and they haven't forgiven you. If you've achieved actual salvation, you're basically a totally different being spiritually, and it only happens when you change to your core. Speaking magic words and faking it still lands you in Hell. If you end up in Heaven, you are fundamentally different from someone who ends up in Hell, regardless of the path you took to get there. You'd be someone who yourself abhors the terrible things you've done, as opposed to the souls in Hell still reveling in them.

Its because the bad guys actually embody what the setting is about. All the protags are shown to be down on their luck not really guilty of anything people who deserve to be in heaven somehow rather than awful people trying to be better. Angel Dust sold his soul and is a sex and drugs addicted wretch but the show is incapable of saying that doing drugs and fucking everybody in your vicinity are bad things to do. So it seems like the only thing Angel Dust needs to do is beat Valentino and thats all there is to his character.
