Who is the intended audience for comic books? What age group are they for? Because, for the life of me, I just can't figure this out.

Adults who used to read comics back in the early 90s. But also share all the exact same current year politics and opinions of the people writing them.

Everyone else can fuck off

Yes, however, the books target towards pre-teens and teens often don't read much different than the books targeted towards "adults".

>serious answer
from the era of pulp up to the bronze age, it was generally kids under the age of 13-14. with the death of the CCA and the rise of the dark age, it became acceptable to make comics for older teens and young adults. for the last 15-20 years both Marvel and DC have basically conceded that nobody under the age of 25 buys their shit anymore so they have refocused on older people.

>Don't read much different
Are you seriously annoyed that most media is written at the fifth grade writing level?
Because most news articles, novels, and presidential speeches do the exact same thing.
How they're written has nothing to do with it.

From the 60s through the 90s it was roughly 10-20 year olds. Starting from the 00s, strictly 30+ year olds who were already reading comics.

Superhero comics used to be aimed at children, then teens and children, and now they're aimed at manchildren and womanchildren.

Doesn't matter if I'm upset too, of course I am, I'm angry at everything.
But you said
>If that's the case why isn't it written differently
That doesn't matter. It's irrelevant. I know you're baiting but ask anyone who isn't a political extremist if presidential speeches and politics are for children.
Almost all of them will say no unless they're 140 iq Neo Nazis like you or me who are self aware enough to say "Yes actually."
In that same way, it doesn't matter how they're written, the target audience for comics about serial killers and sexy vampires are adults, not children, no matter how badly written.

OMD is still bitched about because Marvel refused to let go of MJ after doing it. For as bad of a story as it is, if they'd just had her fuck off from the books, move to LA or something, and show up with the frequency of Betty Brant, Liz Allan, or Carlie Cooper (like once every four years), people probably would have moved on.

Instead, she's consistently portrayed as the true love of his life, constantly shows up in the book, is consistently portrayed in other media outside of the book as the love of his life... like, with the only exception of the Garfield/Stone movies, MJ's constantly his girlfriend. Cartoons, video games, the current movies, etc. If you went and stood in line at the Spider-Man ride and asked kids and normies who Spider-Man's girlfriend or wife is, they'd almost all still say MJ.

Then even people new to reading comics have to go back and see they made the dumb dick decision to end his marriage in a deal with the devil, and realize it's one of the worst storylines ever made in comics.

And shit, I didn't even mention that at an average about once a month, she's the main subject of a variant cover, including stuff up to like, her and Pete kissing. Even if she's not in the book.
