It's one thing when Odysseus is drawn as a twink (or something along the lines of the classic greek young man archetype) but Jorge's voice just does not work with this design

Meh! The average literacy over ancient mythology was always surprisingly low, just watch old movies and comics and you will see people sayings the most surface level crap and pretending they did actual research

I don't like Neal's animatics. I know i'm watching tumblr adjacent stuff, but even then i think he draws Poseidon in a faggy way. Although he(?) has some really cool shots with the whater horses.
Anyway.
My favorite songs were Get in the Water, Puppeteer, Hold Them Down and Would you fall in love with me again.
Best animatic maker is Gigi on average. Has ton of charm and charisma.
All in all? Loved it. Seriously, broskis, i fucking cried at the end when Odi reunited with Penelope.

I mean I don’t really see the problem, personally.
The versions you’re talking about aren’t the original ones either.
They’re versions written hundreds of years after the myths started, changed, edited, etc to fit the sensibilities of the area or time.
Hell the gods themselves have changed completely, Poseidon used to have the role of Zeus and Hades.
In my opinion it’s literally the same validity. Given the original epic itself is fan fiction of an older source.

I really hope this isn't one of those "modern greek myth adaptions/retellings are just as valid as Homer and Hesiod" takes. Greek gods and heroes are not just ancient Public Domain characters, even if there are several different variations of the same myth, they all still exist within the same greek cultural framework. The original Odyssey had a huge theme about Hospitality (Xenia) which was really important to the ancient greeks but most modern day odyssey adaptations don't really touch on it that much or even bother with it at all (Odysseus slaughtering the suitors makes more sense when you look at it through the lens of ancient greek hospitality laws). What's fascinating about greek myth is that it gives us an insight into what ancient people thought and what value bronze age and iron age people had. There's historical significance in greek myths since it alludes to possible events that we have no clear archeological evidence or documentation of. There's no hard evidence that various greek-city states all joined up and had a multi-year war with the city of Troy. So what exactly happened back in the bronze age that greeks decided to make the city of Troy into a cornerstone of their mythology? We don't fully know and that's what makes it fascinating. The idea that there's no "canon" in greek mythology is dumb, there's a plural canon that had it's own traditions, temples and religious rituals which belongs to the greek corpus.
And I can't stand the "Circe was a rape victim" shit started by Madeline Miller, it takes away what made Circe a fascinating female figure in the original myths. You can make all the modern sensible/feminist retellings you want but it's not "adding" anything to greek mythology because it's not fucking greek
